It is just strange how you have people like paxys arguing bullshit that they don't believe themselves.

Just bored people trying to win an argument for fun.

Good job paxys! You win. You are so smart! Here is pat on the back old chap.

I have always assumed many programmers are terrible at sports in general so they turn programming into this weird sport of who can be the Cristiano Ronaldo of programming.

Hopefully Daniel Kahneman's new book will spread the way people talking about bias is common now.

It couldn't be more timely as our society has no concept of measurement noise.

"What I read is 100% true and based on "science" so to have any uncertainty means you are anti-science".

There is an astounding number of people using that as their main heuristic.

The summary of the thesis in that article just sounds really stupid. Why are we even wasting time talking about this.

I use to love the Economist but it is just a waste of time now as well.

So basically his work is fiction?

I just don't see how we get rid of the office without replacing the way the people higher up feel more important at an office.

Everyone is ultimately too equal on zoom and the people higher up are the ones deciding this.

Hence, we need to get back in the office for "collaboration". Of course no one really believes this.

I mean obviously when people say that it is a rhetorical devise to win an argument. I mean the people saying that are saying it exactly because it is bullshit. It is hard to argue against exactly because it is such bullshit.

At this point though we need to have entire new branch of the military. Otherwise, I just don't see how we are taking this serious enough.

The way the Air Force specializes in the air.

It is just incredible how we are always fighting the last war. From 9/11, instead of learning we need to constantly stay on top of a shifting battlefield we learned to fight Islamic terrorism. Not good.

I think you should just view it like a podcast or music video. You have full control over the presentation. I wouldn't doubt there is a huge bias in interviews towards the more aesthetically pleasing video.

Not just software either. I mean what great business idea at this point is only going to have local consumers.

It is just a terrible idea on so many levels. It is like something Jay Gould would come up with once already at the top.

I know people personally that are always complaing about Amazon being too big and a monopoly while also being prime members and basically addicted to getting packages everyday in the mail. Sums things up pretty much.

Or you could go a step further that it is our hubris as a nation that expects the other side to fight us on a traditional battlefield with tanks and bombs and get crushed in a month. As if the other side is just so stupid as to never figure out a different strategy.

This is a 21st century hot war that we are losing badly.

Yes, people should go to jail so you don't have to smell things you don't like.

Unbelievable.

People in the US often want things both ways too.

People want giant alcohol super markets with every type, size and price point of alcohol imaginable and then people want to bitch that other people have drinking problems to make a point about their a priori political beliefs.

Very American.

I think you are just repeating things you have read about.

People walking out of their jobs because wages are so low is obvious bullshit.

The people I know in this situation are the hardest working people I have ever met and it is insulting to them to say such things.

This is the real rub to me.

It would be one thing if you rip off all my data but I am constantly seeing ads for cool things I would never have found otherwise and can't wait to buy. Instead the ads are always shit that I never even consider.

If things were not tailored I would probably randomly run across products that are just outside my current taste but at least spark some interest.

Agree 100% What about clothing? Why doesn't the office have a nice clothing store so I can properly dress for the office?

What if I need to get my car repaired? You are telling me the office can't have an on site mechanic? Oil change while I work would be a nice perk. Email me when it is done.

I don't need Home Depot but what about some packages of mulch for the lawn at a reasonable price?

I am so sick of this.

Any time I have tried to watch videos on it I feel like I am getting a headache and having a few IQ points shaved off.

Mostly it makes me sympathize with people back in the day when cocaine was consider a tonic and medicine.

"This stuff is so entertaining and I can't believe I just want more and more. You just have to try this cocaine stuff, you will love it".

Least surprising thing ever.

Even the most religious zealot nun who has taken a blood oath of poverty would become corrupted in that situation and the money would trickle away.
