Why isn't there a "nocode" tool that lets you buy the full source code once your user base reaches X? (for $Y). Both problems solved? (finding the right balance in the level of abstraction for the "nocode" tool's code shouldn't be a big deal).
Being an iOS developer myself, I can see how a bug like that can take place. I'm sure it's just a technical glitch, but hey, conspiracy theories everywhere these days.
Pretty disappointing to see such a poor article making it to the top of HN. I’m sure a company with 10k amazing engineers and infinite money cannot come up with the Libra ideas, but it needs to steal it from a random Joe
App Store & Google Play charging this fee is like Google charging your website in order to show up in Google results. The app stores are not great due to their investments, they are great due to the awesome apps developers have built
This applies to so many other things: cosmetics, food, drugs, guns, etc. And now they’re lobbying to influence other countries too (UK, Brazil, etc). Incredible amount of greed and lack of ethics.
The government cannot afford paying someone who actually understands computers. That someone would already be in Silicon Valley, not wanting to work for the government. Funny how things work
As a caveat, we only see the winners, so this perspective is biased. But sure, we have casinos as well, so I guess we totally should allow all people to invest in startups.
Never heard about Mastodon, it’d have been nice if the article explained what it is. Is this yet another startup promising they won’t become a merciless corporation? Great value prop, lol
Apple is pretty much saying “I own all the rails and it’s ok for me to compete with the transport companies that use them”. This might not be ok in EU, but US doesn’t give a sh*t. No matter how much developers, songwriters, consumers, etc get screwed by some greedy corporations. $1000 is not enough for a phone, we still need to pay 30% of all the apps we’re using... It’s a crazy world.
Is it really surprising that the upper class is isolating itself from the rest, as the gap gets bigger and bigger in time? That happens in all areas of life, school included. The admission system of many universities just makes this very easy.
I want to see all journalists at least mentioning this whataboutism, if they really want to solve a problem. They’re just gaining traction and views on Facebook’s negative momentum, and they don’t even mention the bigger elephants in the room (such as google analytics, for instance).
While at it, should we put Segment, Mixpanel, Optimizely, etc. on the list? I’m not saying they’re good or bad in terms of data tracking, I’m just saying they should be in the same bucket. Tech companies harvest data to improve their businesses...
There’s nothing new about this. It’s like having a co-founder in a relatively low risk small business. The fact that we need a co-founder to aford a shelter says a lot about where our society is heading and the simple presence of such articles should worry us.
