There certainly is product placement in the UK - see [1]. When watching these shows you'll see an opaque 'PP' logo flash up on the screen to let you know.

FWIW, the duration has nothing to do with it - you could be 'long APPL' etc. for only a few minutes (or even seconds, microseconds etc.) - see [0] An alternative phrasing here might be "We are bearish on software" [1] [0]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Long_(finance) [1]https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Market_sentiment

It happens if you paste the code into an Outlook email (which used Word as the rendering engine IIRC)

I mean it's hardly hidden in the depths of Windows - it's right there in every single font selection menu.

Thankfully there has been a movement to reduce the number of road signs in general - see the 'Reducing Sign Clutter' [1] advice released the the DfT in 2013.

Isn't the problem right there in the first sentence? - "Almost every university in England offers courses in computer science". Obviously not all institutions offering a CS degree are equal & a quick look at a league table [1] shows that the 'Graduate Prospects' range from 100 (St Andrews) to 38 (Bolton). Elsewhere in the thread someone mentions software apprenticeships and I think anyone thinking of enrolling on the CS course at Bolton might be better off doing an apprenticeship instead.

I assume that you mean any tube station within Zone 1 because otherwise this is just not true. For 1.5k you can rent a 2 bed flat in Zones 2-3 and get much more than this further away if you're willing to flatshare. I have a friend who shares a 4 bed in Morden and pays something like 650pcm all in.

They seem to focus their campus recruitment events (http://www.deloitte.co.uk/aem/student-events-calendar.cfm) heavily towards the Russell Group universities (Oxbridge, London, Durham etc.) If they want a more diverse talent pool, why don't they hold more events further afield?

I wanted to mention this exact thing on one of the threads earlier today but couldn't articulate it properly.

In the UK the department stores John Lewis and House of Fraser are both guilty of this - if I browse something on either of their sites an ad for it follows me around the web for ~4 months.

E.g. I was buying Birthday gifts for my girlfriend at the beginning of July and looked on both of these sites and they are both displaying the same ads to me (i.e. at this point both are spending their advertising budget to annoy me)

What I want is this - a space where I can say "I'm looking for a picnic hamper for a gift & I want to spend between £25 & £50. I need it by date X" This can then be given to the advertisers (auctioned?) and they can display some ads to me which are relevant. When date X is reached (or I indicate that I've bought said item and am therefore out of the market) these ads stop. For added info I can even say what I bought and why - e.g. "I bought X in your store as a picnic hamper won't fit through my mailbox"

Surely this is more useful for everyone involved? I get ads which are actually being targeted based on something I control (vs. being inferred via which sites I happen to click on or what cookies are set) and the advertisers get more detailed info as well.

This happens on the BBC (which is ad-free) & it drives me mad! E.g. Dragons' Den is clearly pre-formatted to be sold to commercial channels with ad breaks - there is about 20 mins of content in a 1 hour show w/ 40 mins of recaps and dramatic panning around the 'Den'.
