This is how I feel as well. I don’t even mind the shopping part but for a mass grocer, the checkout experience has become unbearable.

Apparently we have one drive-in theater in San Jose and one in Concord in the bay. I totally would have expected them to be extinct by now.

Appatently the SJ theater is hosting an Easter service today https://www.mercurynews.com/san-jose-church-hosting-easter-s...

Darn it I even looked it up but spelled it as "Andola" (Who'd have thought that I'd make a classic Japanese L-R mistake!) which didn't register a result on google.

Thanks for the correction!

Ah good point sorry about that.

You're right about 2 week quarantine when a traveler gets back to China. Also I believe inter-province travel is quite restricted right now adding to said difficulty of travel.

My understanding is that new cases of the virus in the coastal cities of China are quite low, and that they have a heavy handed testing/monitoring system in place with personal accountability given to the party reps stationed in each residence complex.

Also, Japan-China will always have trade and geopolitical considerations, for better or for worse. Lots of Japanese companies have offices and manufacturing plants in China that they'd like to continue operating as well as they can.

Even if BC lagged Washington by 2-3 days in Earth Time (so to speak), this likely translates into faster-than-Washington response with respect to where they were at on the virus incident growth curve.

I looked into additional entry ban countries since other posters here seemed to wonder about non-US countries.

"As of March 27th

Foreigners who have been in the following countries in the prior 14 days: Iceland, Ireland, [EDIT]Andorra, Italy, Iran, Estonia, Austria, Netherlands, San Marino, Switzerland, Sweden, Spain, Slovenia, Denmark, Germany, Norway, Vatican, France, Belgium, Portugal, Malta, Monaco, Lichtenstein, Luxembourg.

Additionally, Hubei and Zhejiang provinces in China, as well as holders of passports from these regions.

Also a bunch of regions in South Korea

And lastly, passengers on the Westerdam cruise ship.

There are always corner cases like (1) a Japan-based non-PR/citizen professional who's on a work trip to the US who needs a couple days to get back to Japan, or (2) someone's partner who again is based in Japan but is currently in the US traveling temporarily for work/family/leisure. Typically spouses of citizens/PRs can tag along through travel restrictions but a romantic/domestic partner will not have this avenue available (also spouses traveling alone without their PR/Citizen partner)

iirc 1 is already happening, as more loans "than expected" (roll eyes) are delinquent.

Looking at current management may give you inaccurate data since the competitive environment for new grads has worsened compared to 20 years ago for humanities majors.

A better data point would be to look around entry level or mid level in non development roles (sales, marketing, HR/admin, etc.) and see what majors are represented there.

Perhaps the situation you find yourself in is so egregious that it is "worth" the risk of losing a friendship, possibly troubling your friend even more, and you yourself going through much emotional distress leading up to, and during the conversation.

I've been accused by a friend for not doing enough in a much less egregious situation (but also in the category of morality and equality), and understand the social difficulty in broaching such a topic, especially if you don't know them well.

It's easy to say "do the right thing" on an internet forum to a stranger, especially if you yourself haven't been in this social situation where you know what the right thing is in a vacuum, yet our survival instincts push us towards not stirring the water. I think your reaction thus far is completely rational given such an alien situation (which is where I found myself in the past).

I just want to say that your internal turmoil is being discounted too much by other commenters. I hope that you can find internal peace and understanding of where you stand and what you believe in for yourself, not because someone tells you that's what people "should do", before doing or saying anything, because that is the only way we can sustain both our moral and emotional health.

Smartphones make the problem 10x worse for me. It virtually calls out to me from my left pocket to check for updates.

I'm on vacation now and am experimenting with reducing my phone time dramatically (about 10 minutes a day to respond to texts). I don't carry the phone around with me at all times. It's great -- mentally liberating and actually allows me to completely space out staring off into the distant landscapes, or completely focus on reading/writing.

>1. Design with your factory. Finding a good supplier is important but the real work starts once you've shaken hands. Your factory is your greatest resource as a presumably inexperienced hardware designer. It's like having an expert-level consultant work on your project for free, so take advantage of it.

Your first lesson applies not only to small teams launching on Kickstarter, but also to the best and biggest manufacturing companies in the world. The feedback loop between the production team and the design team was the most important step in the design process at Denso.

Good point on the list rates. Then again contract terms will probably be longer right, so both sides sort of "win" there.

So it seems that the true test will whether a shop like HP would adopt Github Enterprise and pay $20/mo/programmer for 50,000 programmers and pay $1mm/mo to Github.
