Absent serious consequences (pregnancy, HIV) why would you regularly use condoms? The article covers what I consider to be the critical point. If you don't care about getting Syphillis enough to change your behavior then why should we care enough about it to spend public funds trying to eradicate it?

It is very unlikely to have negative consequences, and while they can be severe with things like blindness, so can downhill skiing and we don't spend public funds to remove the danger of downhill skiing. Hell we often spend public funds building skate parks which come with their own small risk of serious debilitating injury and we do it because the people who engage in that behavior are aware of the danger and don't consider it serious enough to abstain from the pleasure. And most critically those of us who want to avoid the danger can quite easily do so, as with Syhpillis.

I don't see a problem worthy of the publics attention here let alone the publics funds.

What is that supposed to mean? Fail fast and move on is one of the mantras of the industry and as far as I can tell from reading HN most startup founders and employees all have numerous startups under their belt unless they accidently unicorned their very first one.

Starts at decade born 40's and goes from there. This is the moral equivalent of starting in mid March to look at stock gains. If we had the same information from the founding of our country until today it would probably look closer to a U with "born in the 40's" being pretty damn close to the top of that U. This should not be used by anyone to make any conclusions.

The world just went through massive war that destroyed nearly all of Europes infrastructure and the demand to fix it mostly manifested as opportunity for Americans. Since then Europe has rebuilt and both India and China have arrived on the scene as powerhouses of their own. We will never have the same opportunities that we had then again, or at least we should all pray we don't.

Wouldn’t that just be “the left” with “the far left” reserved for MAP (minor attracted persons gag), ANTIFA, weather underground, etc type organizations that have their hopes invested in the left but see no support from the actual party.

Incognito tab didn't work, googling it didnt work, and outline.com didn't work. Anyone have any other tips or tricks for finding the article to read it?

Unfortunately there are no puzzle pieces to be put together. That’s the system working exactly how it’s supposed to.

What good is money if you can’t use it to convince other people to do things for you?

Who would pay to advertise products to you that you already indicated you want by adding it to your wishlist? That sounds like some of the worst ad spend you could engage in.

Just to address your first point - You can't visit a major American city with out finding an IKEA or even two. The world globalized, it didn't americanize.

Not sure you can reach for ageism as the answer when "node" and "Ruby" are on that list. Over the past 5 years those have been two of the hottest bootcamp languages churning out resumes with those keywords on them. I'm shocked to see it, but I would say its more likely they are targeting bootcamp grads than older developers.

You should at least entertain the idea that you might be the one who is wrong in that interaction. I googled your exact quote and it looks like it’s 100% true not some right wing conspiracy. Even if you are going to try and bend over backward and claim that’s not what coco cola intended, the literal fact is they require their employees to take a training and in that training they are told to be less white. That makes your quote above literally a true thing that happened. I can see why he would be angry at you for trying to pretend the literal facts in front of his face are not true.

Visiting my wife’s extended family is quite difficult for me because out of the dozens of them, not one of them has high speed internet. The internet is just emails to them. All of them are very active in their communities.

The internet, and Reddit especially, are a self selected group that don’t represent the majority of the 330M people living here at all.

You forgot screaming "whataboutism" anytime you try to introduce a comparable example to a topic where they are clearly arguing in bad faith. That has been the single greatest weapon in destroying true discourse that I have seen.

Above 70, the death rate starts to skyrocket naturally. This was also one of the highest risk groups for COVID. A lot of people who were likely to fall down and die or have a stroke/heart attack and never recover instead caught COVID and died a few months earlier. Remember to hug your parents/grandparents as life is short and none of us is promised tomorrow.

Most of those people on their phones are probably using the GPS to get to their destination. I know that some of them are being irresponsible and using Facebook or something, but phone navigation has replaced the map quest printout of my day with everyone young and old in my circle.
