Nowdays we can have json APIs in relational databases (at least in Oracle and SQLServer). These APIs allows reading and writing of single value in nested level too. I think at least check-points could have been avoided.
Orkut and Reader. Both from Google.
Orkut was just toy product for Google. But considering the fan base (especially from India) they got I was surprised they did not continue it. It was at the time overshadowed by Myspace and later Facebook.
Google reader was a nice RSS feeder. Many people was disappointed when Google declared that they were shutting it down.
For both these products, I guess main reason from Google was that they were concentrated on other things at the time. But most important I think these were not matching with there advertisement based Revenue model.
So negative reviews has escalated very quickly.
Bot or not, I normally trust IMDB ratings. Any movie with rating 6 and above is at least one time watchable. Any series having rating less than 6.5 is not worth. There could be exceptions off course.
Are there any interesting incidence of purposefully negative reviews on imdb?
One I know of is [1]. The Indian movie Gunday was bomb shelled by Bangladeshi community as some historical reference was not proper.
Put yourself in the founder shoes and think. He/She already has some way of doing things, which is working till now, and you are trying to break it. There will be some resistance to this inertia.
When you talked about the standard, people tend to make themselves as exception saying that "our case is different". Check if this is the case.
It seems that you are starting big. Trying to push the changes, which people are not used to. Start with small changes, something like statistical analysis tools or some small automated test case tool. Something which will be simple and not much time consuming for developers. Once they see its value, may be then they can "trust" you with big changes.
Then there is psychological approach for making changes. You can present your ideas in such a way that the person buying (in your case founder), feels that he/she has a choice or a major role in decision making. But then you present choices, such that the one you prefer comes out as obviously best. Check if this approach can work in your case.
Finally, it's your life and your job. Mental stability is more important that the company you are working in. Don't hesitate to fly away on first opportunity.
I realized that life is not always fair with you. But however cruel it is, be firm with your principles. Know yourself and ignore the discrimination by others. I read this in my teenage year, the time in life which makes you, and the values of Karna become my values.
I was so impressed by this book, that some year later, in my college days, I read another book by same author on Krishna's life named Yugandhar (roughly meaning emperor of Era). Now every time I am in tricky situation, I always think what will Krishna do in this situation.
Mrityunjaya, the death conqueror. A novel depicting the life of Karna (one of the Mahabharata character). Once you read this, your entire view of Mahabharata will change. I read this in my teenage years. It has changed my view of looking at life, and I started to take life seriously.
I agree with this. The topic is vast and number of opinions will be equal to number of people.
And exactly what is getting discussed here? Hindu propaganda, patriarchal hierarchy, education system, Muslim and British attacks?
No point in discussing such issues on HN.
At least create different threads for different topic.
Yes. I have subscribed to Digit Magazine in India. I especially like their FastTrack supplememt, which is kind of short course for the subject it covers.
