If you can’t see the difference between a design firm pointing out obvious riffs on their first to market designs…

And a company openly instructing poached employees to exfiltrate documents on their way out the door, well…

Apples billions are in cash

OpenAIs billions are in IOUs to Nvidia

Yep SNES games retailed for up to $70 in the early 90s. I’m seeing gamers revolt for paying that much today for something as immense as GTA6

Back then this was more expensive, adjusted for inflation, than many AAA titles today, and the scale of those games was way smaller

I won’t argue that today’s games are not expensive, but they have always been expensive.

I don’t have time to do much gaming anymore but I can find a ton of good stuff that isn’t bleeding edge if i did. Patient gamers always win.

Ironically, when people moved their communities to Reddit and discord they only helped to enable the AI theft of this culture

Forums were easy to search. The threads were mostly chronological and easy to stay in touch with.

These corporate platforms are designed to promote reposting. Always “new” content and impossible to find anything else. keep the user reloading that feed at all costs. And behind the scenes the corporations are mining your activity

I’m somewhat optimistic that as future generations of LLMs keep scanning this new LLM driven social media landscape, the models will collapse and the content will just suck more and more.

And people with interesting takes and novel ways of expressing them leave the corporate platforms, and we return to the humble days of user owned platforms without all the bots

After all, it’s easier than ever to build a platform now that we have LLMs to do all the chore work

Look. OP said he couldn’t remember something so I provided some links to jog his memory. There is no shortage of examples of musk being a shithead for anyone who cares.

I am not going to litigate every detail in these articles because that’s not the point of this thread but for SOME REASON you feel obligated to jump to an oligarch’s defense and I am not going to waste any more time on you.

I mean really, what can I say to someone who is drawing lines around content of children in bikinis as some kind of defense. So weird and gross.

You are being intentionally obtuse. Why on earth you would feel the need to play this game when we all know Musk’s character is baffling.

Counterpoint: bandcamp is doing well. Vinyl sales are doing well.

If I like an artist that I find on streaming, I buy an LP and get a lossless download for free. I still have a music library and I will never rent my favorite music.

Artists prefer to connect directly with their fans and BC is probably the best platform for people who care to pay and support acts directly. They have high res downloads and I import them.

That’s true, but I consider myself a collector. Think of how a comic book collector operates.

If I have an option to get a 16bit version of a recording or a high-res version, I choose the highest quality version very time

Same with a physical copy. A limited edition, better quality vinyl LP is more attractive if you are going through the trouble of curating a collection.

I’ve been curating a music library of digital files since before the iPod was released and I will always go for the highest quality version out of principle. I can always downsample it to any thing that makes sense.

That’s dumb. Call your local authorities.

I woke up to a bat in my house. Local animal control told us to go to the ER immediately and get the rabies cycle started.

Don’t play games.

If I were in her shoes I’d take it down and create a new post as soon as they left.

Every instance of them harassing her over each post gives her a mountain of evidence to sue the government and retire on the proceeds.

Just look at the settlements for everyone who was fired over Charlie Kirk posts

HN is a collection of people with varying viewpoints and backgrounds posting arbitrarily throughout the day. There is no single position to be hypocritical of.

The “Hypocrisy” you are experiencing here is just you having to sort through other people’s opinions and getting upset at the ones that disagree with yours.

> Does anyone really take AI that seriously?

Surely you have heard the stories of people using LLMs as girlfriends, therapists and drug trip guides right? Sometimes with fatal results?

Yes, people are taking LLMs very seriously.

I think any position of power attracts those with dark triad personality traits

The bigger the name of the company, the more attractive upper management is to these types of personalities.

If your idea of a satisfying career is navigating the various disorders associated with narcissists, egomaniacs, delusional, Machiavellian, for the status that it affords, upper management might be for you.

Mid to lower level management often just serves as the enforcement arm for this upper class. They make the “tough” decisions (which are not tough at all if you lack empathy), and force the managers under them to actually implement it (the real tough part)

The managers who have no trouble doing it (because they share the same traits) are obviously the best suited for promotion. And so it continues
