You forgot to add unwillingly, but otherwise correct

You're saying that within 5 years the illness will become terminal.

My friend, you seem to have mispelled United States of America

Delayed Auto Shift. In NES tetris the rate is 10 moves per second, so to beat it in speed you have to press on the dpad at more than 10Hz.

You have always been able to hide the like/dislike count on your published videos.

Let's not be stupid about this. The only people benefitting from this change are the shady ones.

Yesterday I could leave a dissenting comment and publicly vote down the content. Today I can leave a dissenting comment. Tomorrow... ?

Kinda saddened by the fact that tpfancontrol is still a must have in 2021. I believe it became mandatory for me when I upgraded my old W520 from win7 to 10, as the newer OS didn't properly manage fan speeds (the minimum speed was way too high, the maximum speed was never triggered).

I haven't used windows on that laptop in years (and it doesn't get much use anymore, although it still works flawlessly!), reckoned they'd have fixed this by now.

They expect you to comply, or be left out.

I've always interpreted "triage" as the first response whenever something comes up (paralleling the medical term were it's from), is that not how it is?

Triage is what happens when you first look at a new ticket and decide what to do with it, any encounter/interaction after that is not a triage.

If maintainers feel like they need to close tickets only to keep order, than that's a problem with the tooling: tickets should only be closed if they're malformed, solved, or (arguably) wontfix.

Yes, it was engineered to be this way intentionally, through unregulated competition rules and systematic killing of any open alternative by way of massive pumping of capital.

We live in a disgusting scenario, we're held hostage by a racket.

I imagine the logic here would be developing a passive income to compensate for the free labor you put in in the first place, and cover whatever future free labor you might want to do.

I was hoping to see less obvious examples, and especially standard libraries

Seen this comment a lot in the thread, I'd like to know which libraries do. Google didn't help (as usual nowadays).

The plan in motion is, in the name of "making reattaching a button simpler", prevent anyone able to reattach a button on their own from doing it, so the shirt manufacturer makes more bank.

Me being able to freely manipulate my own data according to my capacity has NOTHING to do with providing uninterested/incapable people with tools that hide complexity.

Files are OPEN.

You can do whatever you want with a bunch of bits and a spec that tells you what they mean. Even utilize different software/hardware to consume and manipulate them, which is the last thing your software/hardware vendor wants you to do.

Did anyone really think doing away with files ever had anything to do with simplicity? Another magical thing you can do with a bunch of bits is build abstractions over them to simplify their manipulations as much as you want. It's vendor lock-in and it's not only awful but evil too.

This is entirely correct. "Oil" in here (Italy) is synonymous with EV olive oil, the only reason why households have a bottle of sunflower seed or peanut oil is for deep frying.

I think this kind of rebuttal is a bit narrowly-scoped. It's not like we made social media centralized and controlled by a few people BECAUSE other systems were unmanageable/impossible to moderate. We never even got to see a world were users own their social media. In such a world I imagine moderation to be in the hands of the users, evolving into a crowdsourced effort in which anyone can implement off-the-shelf blacklists/whitelists. This way no single node can get mass silenced by decree of a CEO or government entity (thus requiring to "run off" somewhere else). You could see it as free market for information exchange.

Yep, a result of legislation prohibiting food items containing inedible parts iirc! I always found it amusing.
