IF the velocity would change from 0.7m/s to 0m/s over one second, the acceleration would be 0.7m/s/s. But if the time span over which that velocity change is (much) shorter, the acceleration would be (much) higher.

You don't need to identify the A320 from 15 pixels. Once you see a 15 pixel signature that changes between subsequent frames you point the one extra camera on a movable mount with a 600mm lens on it at it. Now you get a few hundred pixels.

Seeing how the sausage gets made makes you realize ALL the downsides and things you'd rather not have known. That doesn't mean you can think of a way to fix science. Let alone get the required funding to make an actual attempt.

For scale: The LHC has more than 11km diameter and the deepest mine we have built is 4km. Adding vertical distance is much harder than making the diameter of the circular tunnel larger.

How do you encode the difference between a method that adds and a method that multiplies two numbers in the type signature?

I was referring to the "The US government is trying to bring back nuclear safety employees it fired on Thursday, but is struggling to let them know they should return to work, NBC News has reported. [...]An email obtained by NBC said the letters for some NNSA employees 'are being rescinded, but we do not have a good way to get in touch with those personnel'." part. It's about 300 people affected. And when you apply at these types of positions they ARE aware of private contact information.

How chaotic does https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c4g3nrx1dq5o sound to you?

In my experience people understand perfectly well but assume that you are ex-military.

How is that extortionate? Using the inflation calculator of the Bank of England that is 86 pounds now or $110. Admittedly that more expensive than the current price of $24 for the paper back, but at worst that seems to be twice as expensive as a common price for a 850 page book?

If that thing had VGA-in on top of the keyboard and mouse out via USB, it would be a great tool to carry in a data center when you have to physically interact with a machine.

Sure, for booleans you can just test all combinations of input arguments. In some cases you can do the same for all possible 32 bit float or int values that you have as input. But for 64 bit integers (let alone several of them) that's not feasible.

And if I go to that website it encourages me to "try it for free" which makes me think I am supposed to pay for it. But ok, let's give it a try. Then I need to enable a bunch of Javascript. Eh, ok. It was recommended on HN, probably not too malicious. And than it complains: Uh oh... we couldn't load this form.

Ok, close tab. I will keep using other tool for HPC debugging... (Yes, I actually do HPC and I of course have heard of totalview. Last I heard it is also a total pain to install.)

No, because it counts citations from influential papers with a higher weight.

The one idiot that the rest of the world ignored was Georg W. Bush. By electing a second, worse idiot the US has demonstrated to the world that they are no longer a viable long term partner.
