I don't get this. You're allowed to protest about Palestine all you want, why do you have to associate that with a group who who broke a policewoman's back with a sledgehammer?

Maybe I'm naïve, but is the heinous shit that bad? I'm essentially wondering if it's anything worse than you could discover on the internet already. Of course it makes it more accessible/easier, but I'm curious if it goes a level above what is technically discoverable right now.

I agree other comapnies are just as culpable as Meta, but you think it's childrens fault they get addicted?

We barely know the damage social media does yet, it's not comparable to taking the first hit of drugs at all.

Agreed that tech workers need to take a look at themselves too, but also it's the execs and governments more too blame.

Those features sound so narcissistic to me

If you decide to dig deeper, it's an incredible tool. Getting a summary of the internals of something you only use as an API, then getting it to test you on it until you understand. It really allows you to learn a lot.

Metadata? Pretty sure they scraped the files and released them too.

Honestly, a web app to match people looking for and willing to provide accommodation is completely different to dealing with the health data of an entire country that is pre-existing in different formats. The first is essentially a CRUD app that should never have been given to Palantir.

Weird analogy when ads aren't addictive in the same way. Look at people around and about and they're all like mindless zombies flicking through Tiktok, not looking at ads. IMO this doesn't go far enough.

Not on web (or the mobile web page either). It's a half baked solution right now.

I've always found that quite interesting. I agree women should have equal rights and never be discriminated against, but when push comes to shove I imagine men would be the ones called up to fight in wars for most countries around the world.

Should we call up women and put them in equal roles? I don't even know how you'd solve this so keen to hear any suggeations/thoughts

100% this. As you say, language courses need content so a lot of it is talking about your life/opinions. Super easy to make friends after a few weeks of that if you make a tiny bit of effort

I'm not an expert, so do some research, but it's probably a bit of a) you've trained yourself to burn fat more (a good thing) b) you're not exercising as strenously c) yes, if you ate you'd probably "perform better".

I'd recommend you to do your own research though.

But to add - yes, if you don't eat you will "bonk" on a long bike ride.

I agree. My real fear if this is how the company works, how are systems with real implications (e.g. defense) being treated.

Likewise, this felt like an early agent problem to me.

It genuinely disgusts me that the world's largest media company shoves addictive, short form content down users throats (especially young people). Anyone working on it at Google should be ashamed of what they're doing.

Can someone convince me bitcoin mining isn't anything other than a huge waste of energy?

It also needs a validation loop. Give it the compiler output and I bet it would fix that code even without examples/a blog post.

I don't consider it derailing and I'm not going to apologise for asking questions :)

What? I want to know more to make an informed decision. Do you think you're adding more to the discussion than me here?

Are you sure they hold sensitive data themselves though? My understanding was they integrate their tools with customers own data and don't have access to it themselves (at least in theory).

Of course I agree that quote is insane and you can dislike them for political reasons, but I want to understand the technological fears and see if any are unfounded.
