Have you played games with a ton of cheaters? It's infuriating, and I'm glad that kernel-level anti-cheat makes it such that you can have an enjoyable gaming experience. Now, I no longer play competitive shooters due to my age, but this was a huge issue back in the day.

I'm sorry but it's just such a glaring caveat. And the fact that you don't speak French...

This can only work in Japan and Germany, I imagine. Maybe in Korea/China/Singapore with severe financial penalties and deposits.

A green card is literally not a visa

How did you determine that? As someone who also buys old computer stuff from time to time, I wouldn't say they are collectibles.

Completely off-topic, but I recall hearing that Boris spent some time in Japan before Anthropic, learning to make miso paste the traditional way while living there. Interesting to see that he's been interested in lacto-fermentation for decades now.

Note that this totally depends on 1. how you say it and 2. who you say it to 3. how good looking/ugly you are.

That's coming from a Spanish speaker used to the alphabet, QUERTY, etc. I imagine you'd find it much more difficult if C were written in Chinese or Arabic, for instance.

> It misidentified the competition as tech-savvy users, but ultimately it turned out to be MS/Apple/Google.

How is this "somewhat" correct? The competition turned out to be trillion dollar companies implementing the exact same thing, not linux sysadmins.

The intent of the article is to point out how the rich truly take advantage of existing tax laws/loopholes to stay even more rich.

No one is claiming Thiel did anything illegal. But it does seem a bit preposterous that billionaires can amass $5B Roth IRA accounts.

Sounds like you’re being a facetious but there are plenty of companies that do pay you if you do end up getting paged. Not for being scheduled on call. Plenty of companies also do 12 hour shifts during the day if you’re on call and have SREs handle the rest for the most part.

Seems unreasonable to say never. Like what a sibling commenter said, it seems like you’ll miss out on potential earnings in your career by being this inflexible.

I disagree. More likely than not the parent commenter will now be her tech support when x doesn’t work or is finicky, which is ALWAYS the case.
