If forced to breaking up Google should stop giving free services in EU including OS, Browser, Map, Search and any other free service. And charge EU users for each of these services which are top or only one in respective categories. These services are free due to Ad business which is best and can make money to fund other free services. Let EU pay for crappy services built by their own mediocre companies like Nokia which can't compete in market so force regulations.

What is EU doing to to curb European monopolies ? Oh wait there are not many.... cause they can't innovate and compete. Easy to be complain than build something to compete.

What's your opinion? Why are there so many Indian origin CEO of Fortune 500 companies?

Skeptics will say Indian origin immigrants are highest but same is true for other immigrants. And they are also competing with citizens too.

I guess nobody really wants to solve this problem. Number of responses on this thread shows truly how many people truly care about gun violence and mass shootings.

If not enough majority people care to fix this issue then it will be part of life and just need to learn to live with it. Just like being careful and defensive driver while driving on road.

Apologies. Please ignore, didn't categorize everybody in one bucket. Asking everyone to comment.

Are there any studies showing if people carry guns always to all places there is reduction in shooting? I guess one point in favor is there are no mass shootings in military or police offices.

Responding to parent comment:

People want free stuff and then complain if some entity asks help.

How's seeking unpaid help digital slavery? You must be very charitable person.

And FYI here are some definitions from dictionary, in case you meant something else by "digital slavery"
slavery : the state of being a slave. slave : a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.

It's giving free services. What about that? And, not just this one company many other trillion $$ market caps give free and paid services and also welcome free feedback.

When you comment on Yelp, Google Maps review, YouTube it's same.

None of the FAANG companies are cartel or forcing any users to use their products at gun point.

Don't like their products then don't use it. Use alternative.

They built one of the best products hence most of the world is using it.

They are not forcing anybody to contribute, it's free and at will, just like community garden. Even walking in garden is not free, cause somebody's tax money is at use. If you are not paying taxes.

They do provide many free services. Google Maps being one of them, you liked their product and used it and it was very useful hence you contributed back to improve it.

If you had paid for their services then you could complain but if you are using it for free then don't use it for free and then complain. You could always use other products or paid products like GPS from garmin.

I don't understand why so much hate towards companies which are supporting free products and enriching lives of billions of people.

If these free products were not there can you imagine how so many poor people across globe could afford free internet technologies?

// Not google employee, opinions are mine.

Downvoting if commented or voiced in favor of tech companies. Hacker news is becoming more extremist like Brietbart.

Really sad and unfortunate.

Yahoo! and MSFT tried doing same, selling Bing search ads on Yahoo ad exchange. Didn't work well and can't scale it. And these are Google innovation why should they not use it.

Is it fair to ask some other ad exchanges to run ads on NYTimes or CNN, Fox news?

How are you going to support innovation and free product for those who can't afford across the world without online advertising?

Search is very expensive business to run Yahoo! and MSFT tried and still they are at behind. Will you pay $$ for each search query? Easy to asking breaking up these companies. Will you help all small business and companies relying on free internet products?

Google, Facebook and other many tech companies are providing many free services which has led to so many new business, innovations and employment and these free services could cost a lot of money if not funded by advertising.

These companies are not selling drugs like Purdue pharma or exploiting Weapons, natural resource like water or Oil or causing pollution or causing deaths.

All those who are complaining against these companies and online advertising ask yourself do you want to live in 1990's world without free communication and technological advancement? If yes, then be honest to yourself and stop using any free products provided by these companies and derived products such as Uber, Doordash etc.

It's easy to complain against those who are doing good.

There are so many other bigger problems to solve instead these money making job providing companies are being targeted. Such a shame.
