One character has forced himself into isolation, obsessing over his past failures, out of fear of failing again and, in so doing, harming his friends.
Picard is trying to encourage him to return from his isolation by explaining that if he continues to seek out where he made a mistake he may isolate himself forever because “It is possible to make no mistakes and still lose.”
