That's obnoxiously ignorant. Even in high school one of my friends had their house raided and electronics, other valuables consfiscated. A dealer scapegoated him, and he had been searched and found with a pipe with resin in it. He carried the pipe to be cool. He had smoked weed less than 5 times at that point. I have other friends with criminal records for minute quantitites of personal use marijuana.

Everyone prosecuted by the government for using this deserves compensation. In fact, why do we give government such authority over us in the first place?

LA and Chicago have some really bad areas, but also some safe ones.

Memphis, Houston, NO, St Louis, Baltimore etc have some crazy high crime neighborhoods, and it used to be worse. Murder rates higher than the worst places in the world. Not even places like Afghanistan come close.

There are so many different variables at play in determing that though.

I remember in my football team's locker room, one guy ended up with an erection and beat up, spit on. I got to deal with hearing "faggot" for years just for being the one person saying to stop. I can't imagine that kind of thing happening today as often. There are good and bad changes.

I remember meeting a young French dude that camped his way around Japan, even in the cities.

In my home city in the US, you couldn't even walk in downtown after dark.

I think part of the problem is with what people are assuming.

There is in fact a large, obvious population of people who are emotionally scared of GMOs. Unfortunately, that group has given anybody who question GMOs a bad name.

This kind of thing is unfortunately true for many things in life.

And ironically, if what I am saying is true, it is the grandparent who, while accusing of irrational reasoning, has not reasoned this out.

I think one thing people are worried about is simply unintended consequences.

Humans have always had confidence of mastery over nature and more often than not we screw it up.

That is nice of you to provide such a well-written answer, and a human response at the end.

Your reasoning seems quite obvious now with hindsight after having given it some thought; and yet, even still I have such a strong inclination that ".........." is a special number? Why? I guess it really is entirely my cognitive bias, because I can't find a reason for it.

But I should have known better as I've--probably obviously being a user here--encounteted binary more than just a few times. And even still, it never occurred to me that 10 in binary is just ".." And then 100 in binary is 1 order of magnitude of "..," 4. And 1,000 is just two orders of magntiude, 8. But still, intuitively this does not seem as natural as 10, and I guess that is completely cognitive bias.

Am I retarded to not have realized this? Maybe, but I actually was so curious about this that I tried to quiz some colleagues by asking what 1000 and 1001 is in binary and only one person got it right immediately, probably by understanding orders of magnitude and not by rote memorization. All the others got it by counting in binary, and one final person was annoyed and questioned why I was asking about binary (oops, sometimes being inquisitive is not socially acceptable). By the way, I work with app developers, most of whom do not have backgrounds in computer science, same as myself.

Yea I guess in base 4, 5 would be 11.

Yea you are obviously right now that I think about it, and I still have such a strong willingness to think there is something special about the number 10.

I never bought this argument, but I'm not confident about it. Isn't base 10 inherently intuitive because of the obvious reasons? IE an order of magnitude is just another 0?

Since I learned about base 2, etc, long ago, I always thought there was something magically elegant about base10 and never understood this? The explanation I've always heard, being 10 fingere, doesn't seem to explain all the elegance with base 10 being easy to work with?..?

>The game can still be jump-scary

Isnt it amazing how some of these old games with relatively small budgets, teams, and difficult dev tools still seemed to capture great design characteristics, artwork and creativity?

Interesting, I actually didn't know that. I'd still need to be able to add people, I'll check that out thanks.

>More importantly social media is bad for your mental health. [...] Being social is a good thing.

This is all that I need to have learned to quit* social media.

*I still use a Facebook, but I don't post anything, and I don't read anything. It is handy for the messenger though to keep in contact with friends that you might see again, such as when travelling.
