I don't think this failed because of the bump, which exists on almost every phone. I really, _really_ wanted to go for the Air but even I couldn't bring myself to do it. My theory is that it largely falls down to the following missing things for most people including myself:
1. An ultrawide camera 2. Dual speakers 3. Better battery
Even though battery-wise, it's impressive for the size, every other review puts it at plumb last which is concerning for any prospect buyer. It's a shame Apple didn't use the Air to experiment with some denser battery tech.
I do hope Apple doesn't give up on the Air after this but it needs work before serious buyers consider it over the Pro models.

Honestly for me it was the camera. My phone is my daily device for photo/video capture, and taking a step backwards in quality isn’t worth it for the size improvements.
Dang, I just got one and it’s my favorite iPhone I’ve ever had.
You don't get any benefit from a thin phone if it's not thin all the way. Both the iPhone Air and S26 Edge phones have a thick, ugly bulge at the camera end. They are neither thin nor elegant.
