I don't love YAML, but for configurations I always choose it for the simple fact that it supports comments. Comments for json are almost always hacky (for example, imbedding a comment key inside the value).

Exactly. This makes so much sense for the city. This type of calculation doesn’t even include a fuzzy bump in technological growth for a city that’s connected with cheap fiber.

This is the case in many, many major cities. When discussing this type of rollout, it’s almost always talking about last-mile, which is the most expensive to rollout and maintain.

Based on the picture, "pulling it up" looks like a fairly intensive task, requiring boats, persons, etc.

That kind of thing eats directly into the ROI for a datacenter. I doubt it competes with a static building with a bunch of solar panels on top.

Interesting idea. My hunch tells me that they’re underestimating the corrosive nature of salt water. I also wonder about vibrations, which are much more pronounced underwater.

But I guess we won’t know until we try!

For a laptop? Even my heavy usage is ephemeral workloads.

I care so much more that the dang thing works reliably without fussing or fiddling, which can not be said about 99% of laptops on the market.

Most languages don’t support static binaries. Other than Go I can’t think of any that make it easy.

There's really nothing special there. Grid operators balance generation and demand, and need to continually update their models. E.g., generate less during midday and more in the late afternoon. It's a hard job sure. That's why we hire experts to do it.

The problem is that utilities want it both ways. They want to charge you peak usage despite the fact that "peak" generation is actually becoming one of the cheapest times for power.

If they allowed free-market pricing in that power they could easily find a use for "curtailment" -- people would crank their ACs or charge their cars if the price kWh dropped below a certain point.

I’ve driven high-and-low all kinds of vehicles, big to small fast slow etc. I will say by far one of the most fun driving experiences you can have is a small <50cc moped in the city.

Stuck in traffic? Get off and push it along the sidewalk. Park ANYWHERE. Swerve and weave. So much fun.

If a company is going to build drone AI in use by the military, I feel MUCH better knowing that company is google and not some poor-quality contracting company.
