Surprised this hasn‘t been mentioned at all in such a long discussion:

I became pretty suspicious of most supplement brands last year. Many omega-3 capsules are rancid (which can have adverse effects and can easily go unnoticed with a capsule), and the vitamin D brands I tried didn‘t seem to do anything for me at all.

I switched to cod liver oil instead. It‘s a staple in Scandinavian cultures, so there are several well-controlled brands available that taste neutral (or are lightly flavored, e.g. lemon). It’s a combined substance containing omega 3, vitamins D, E, and A, and appears to be much more bioavailable than many capsule-based supplements, especially given the oxidation issues. Don’t want to prime anyone - try it yourself - but many people, myself included, report fairly immediate effects. I am not talking about the capsules, they are a fairly recent invention, I mean the plain oil on a spoon like in the old days.

Alongside magnesium, it’s currently my only „supplement“.

He tried for a month, next to his regular treatments and then called Makis who is currently promoting it a quack.

I went into a biosciences/AI PhD with CS/AI background because I wanted to dedicate a few years of my work life to science. So did quite a few other CS / AI grads around me and supervised by me. Few expected to bother with the academic career track and ridiculous conditions afterwards, they all expected to go straight into stable industry or gov AI jobs afterwards.

Is there any alternative for having a gallery of text&photo posts without forced login and exploitative social media distractions? (except for self-hosting)

When I looked for this 11 years ago, tumblr was the only platform ticking these boxes. I just wanted to share a link to photos of what we are up to with family and friends without asking them to register at another platform, and only tumblr allowed that and did not look as if it would close shop within two years.

Looked again recently and it still seems to be the only platform filling that overall „niche“. Also it has a clean and good user interface, and is customizable to the point of changing the HTML. I hope they can save or otherwise sustain it.

Other social media attempts to constantly distract and emotionalize me to keep me hooked. Looking at a good art or photography Tumblr feels like relief now honestly.

Not a good idea then. The librivox experience turned me away from professionally read audiobooks for far too long.

Amateur readers are hit & miss. A lot of professional readers are actors or have a lot of experience. There is a reason people do pay for professionally read books instead of electronic reading or librivox only.

Thanks, I had seen this one too (had even tried sharing it with HN in a parallel submission). It is made with a lot of care and tactfulness, and is one of the best documentaries about Steve Jobs I know.

Little warning: It totally brought me to tears. I knew he liked Japanese aesthetics, but wasn't aware it meant so much for him.
