I disagree. I was willing to tolerate pretty much any ad on YouTube as long as it was normal ad length (:15, :30, or even a minute) if they eventually ended and THE PROGRAM RESUMED.

But then YouTube started PERMANENTLY interrupting what I was watching with never-ending commercials or full-on infomercials... forcing me to manually use the Skip button to stop the commercial onslaught and return to the show I was watching. And they forced me to herd the show along like this every few minutes.

I put stuff on to watch while I'm cooking or doing something; I can't run to wash my hands so I can mash the control on the remote, over and over and over.

So that's when I installed a third-party YouTube client that skips ads. Google took someone who was willing to watch ads, and turned him into someone who never sees one. So Google cost itself and the content creators, through its asshole behavior.

Then they had the gall to WHINE about the uptick in ad-blocking. It's right out of the Trump/Putin playbook: attack someone, and then feign outrage and whine when they fight back.

Definitely. A good grinder is essential, otherwise you can't even get repeatable results.

I have the Baratza Virtuoso and it has been rock-solid for years. I've never even cleaned it...

You're not wrong; light roast is reportedly higher in caffeine.

What I find interesting is that pour-over produces such better results than a drip coffee maker, which seems to be doing essentially the same thing. I guess having the grounds totally submerged makes that much difference.

I'm sure someone has rigged up a microcontroller-based automated pour-overer.

I don't think so. I remember hearing about it when some study came out, but can't find the exact reference.

Try a search on "milk neutralizes beneficial compounds in tea"

Try better coffee. Seriously. Get LIGHT-roast beans, grind them yourself, and get a Chemex.

Dark-roasted coffee is shitty beans that are burned to cover up their poor quality: https://medium.com/@stoffel.brian/the-real-reason-coffee-at-...

Also: Does the addition of milk to coffee nullify or reduce its antioxidant effects, the way it reportedly does to tea?

As an American who worked for an Australian company, the time change was actually great. I had my whole morning to do as I pleased, since Australia is several hours behind the USA... although it's tomorrow.

I never thought of Australians under- or over-touting their professional achievements. I did find my coworkers very respectful and supportive.

Valid question. How fast does it need to be, though?

Photos also stuffs everything into a proprietary database... a blunder made by far too many photo applications.

The problem is the seemingly endless parade of photo software that forces you to add everything to a "database," instead of simply a directory structure. It's tedious as hell, and must be manually kept up to date all the time instead of simply picking up any files added to the structure.

Might be an interesting headline if it said what "Devin" is.
