Instead of letting the Varroa destructor (its scientific name, representative of its devistation) fall to the ground, place an oiltrap below the mesh/screening.

And then those V. destructor can fucking drown.

"See you in hell, tell'em who sent you you little inbred pancake bastards..."

Even though we were literally young children (running competing technical repair guides online), Motorola didn't know this and had cited his very unique name and URL in their official product documentation (this was mid 90s, for a bespoke computerline, still paper-printouts-in-boxes).

I also knew he was black – so when I saw a fellar with this name and feature, I immediately knew it was going to be a memorable moment. It was. We laughed. Such big posturing. Dreams.

I did most of my IBEW apprenticeship in Texas datacenters (including our top agency's). This was between two and a decade ago, but I'm imagining that not much has changed in regards to "regulations."

Texas will allow big players to do just about anything they want as long as the promises of "future jobs" and "additional tax revenue" are kept, even faintly.

My tenure at one facility ended because of an OSHA investigation (which I do not wish to discuss any further than: just as HR works for their corporate owners, OSHA works for their corporate owners).

Safety codes are written in blood. Faintly. They must often be re-written.

----

My hope is that the current datacenter over-buildout results in a similar disaster to the early-2000s destruction of sound-recording studios by home computers with ProTools (e.g).

For my own futureproofing, I've purchased a 5070Ti for local LLM ponderings.

----

A brother is a statewide whore critter ("elected politician", at the Texas level), and my advice to fellow Texans is to do what I did: leave (as a 5th-gen native, I left over a decade ago; as did our other brother).

Different state, same shitty "leadership" :

This one goes in your mouth. This one goes in your butt.

Or was it the other way around?

I was a K6-12 science teacher since back before youtubes existed and it's so great to see educators whom genuinely enjoy sharing their passions with others.

Keep it up! I know from experience (nowhere even near yours [†]) that these videos are grueling labors of love.

[†] Couple of million-view+ viral OC hits, decades ago (god! we get wise too late and old too soon)

----

My favorite part of this specific video of yours is that you give a "spoiler alert" early on, referencing a prior video (which I really enjoyed, too) [SPOILER ALERT]: the holograms you previously made are in fact flat =|

Very cool. Thanks for using this incredible medium to continue sharing your passions!

I looked this up – less than ten dollars, shipped – thanks for the recommendation, but I consider the lack of ringer a perk =D

>optional for utilities but is an additional $10/month

Our local utility offers a one-time $10 credit for opting-out of paperbilling... most similar signups do/will require in-person verification – which I consider a 'perk' at this point in my life (for identity protection reasons).

>how do you operate without email?

There're a few dozen million of us non-email users; granted most are infirm in some way (whether to age or insanity).

A civil court action several years ago required me to sign attensation to "no phone / email" – which at the time was still true. As I am not an attorney, they cannot refuse my access pro se to the legal system – this case eventually required me to seek representation, so this became moot.

My biggest complaint as a user of an old analogue touchtone (the classic AT&T wallmount you're thinking of right now, in red) is: fiberoptic VOIP "telephone lines" don't have the wattage to ring a classic brass bellset – which is okay if you're like me and never want your phone to ring – but sometimes you need this feature.

You can't even imagine how difficult it is to even source a corded telephone locally (outside of the really expensive fax machines, with attached handset).

----

POTS was a brilliant invention; it saddens me that US Radio Operator licenses recently began requiring emails for renewals (which I legitimately don't/won't use). ...sort of thought the principle of being Hams included lowtech communications technologies (not eternal "to do" lists == email).

It seems like our interconnectedness has been going backwards for at least a few decades.

I almost bought the 5070 (12GB), but got the 5070Ti (16GB), instead. It is MUCH FASTER than the non-Ti [1], and can run a multitude-more local LLMs:

<https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-5070-ti.c4...>

https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-rtx-5070.c4218

I really wish NVIDIA would name their products better (e.g. the 5070Ti is closer to a 5080 than a 5070, in performance).

[1] Just as examples: 136 tok/s Llama3.1:8b; 65 tok/s Qwen3.5:9B; PoExile 4k@144Hz... it can do each while the majority of the CPU cores mine Monero =P

Yes, conceptually I understand this is silly.

However, what I meant was: whatever the default programming language used when running Arduino Software Suite.

Which is "essentially C++" according to my LLM query.

As a hobbyist exploring LLMs since Summer 2022 (electrician by trade)... I've been as blown away by generative AI results/output as I've been left laughing at its hallucinations. My first forays were via CrAIyon & ThisWordDoesNotExist .com .

Now, four years later: I've finally been able to purchase a 5070Ti (from a ~1080Ti~ – so, an upgrade). The past few days have been overwhelming as I explore the rights/wrongs of bigger offline models (more parameters, even if They're [only] Made Out of Weights).

----

My twin, an actual brilliant engineer (me: amateurhour), after playing with this new "toy" [discussing chessboard layout, electrical engineering concepts] deduced (accurately IMHO): "it's able to be wrong FASTER – don't let this be discouraging it's an incredible piece of hardware but I still cannot trust it for citing reference material." My general Qwen3:14b model was unable to troubleshoot a bespoke coding issue (as expected, it's not a code-er).

I have minimal coding experience, but he is a professional hardware engineer; I've been self-tasked to play around with "any coding model that might solve a bug I'm having with a current piece of firmware" – so that should be an interesting conceptual experience for both me and twin.

Anybody have a good coding model (it's whatever language Atmel Arduino uses, by default) that runs on a 5070Ti, best?

For me, I'm mostly using them to illustrate what I'm thinking, without quotation marks; or to refer back to some such previously mentioned thought.

Or to not use a comma, to cram two incomplete sentences together whatever #FUamBOT =P

When people start pointing out spelling/formatting (in comments, no less...)... I'll typically just keep participating in discussions, elsewhere.

I recently purchased a GPU capable of running 16GB models (5070Ti), so definitely understand how easy it is to be susceptible to bot/AI comments. This stuff is really powerful/convincing. It replaced a decade-old machine, and runs Ollama/Qwen/Mistral insanely responsively.

But I'm still commenting pure humanly written. My PObox is listed in my profile, and I'll hand-write anybody back a similarly-efforted response card.

DSL v. CableModel crew, checking in. Also got online in early 90s, first with a 14.4k via several janky adapters (none intended for interwebs). Also first with cable internet, circa 1998, in my redneck part of the world (Texas) – Dad got tired of the phoneline never working.

Decades later, I worked datacenters, including those with the last gasps of usenet – what a time to have been alive on the internet. Back then, it truly was a place where nobody knew you were a dog/kid/disabled/whatever (primarily text-based experience).

I remember at DefCon (LasVegas hackercon) ~2010, I ran in to somebody that had run a competing tech corner of the mid-90s internet; we chuckled that we both were obviously younger than our childhood text-based personæ had even purveyed having been, back then – we met, decades later, still in our twenties =P

From a fellow Tennessean, thank you.

I know this is a high paying job for somebody brilliant – lots of respect in and of itself.

But this one is literally for the children.

Again, thank you to poster, co-workers, and future applicants.

I don't personally feel the inevitable UBI/subsistance will make intellectual property much of a patentable/profitable field (...for too much longer), thanks to generative AIs' massive transformations (entrylevel &+).

The US ruled similarly to Japan, but years ago, from copyrights through patents... from my limited POV, the LLMs (specifically) and art models are just regurgitating stolen concepts... echo'ing Picasso's great artists steal! mantra. The US has already ruled this is legal (e.g. newspaper content isn't "stolen" when a genAI summarizes it for a 3rd-party user).

Having sat with published authors, discussing their work/book with LLMs... it is really an interesting perspective on "readers' perspective(s)" [human &not].

For context, I purchased physical PS4 copies of: RDR2, GTA5, Fortnight, and 2077 – for about Steam's online price for just RDR2 – all "used," from Game$top. They play perfectly, hopefully forever...

Steam is the entire reason I even bought an offline PS4Pro in the first place!. Years ago, they required an update from Win7 to Win10 (in order to keep playing my therapeutic GTA5, which for some reason required an online connection for single player gameplay?!?!). After some rageful months without Trevor'ing, I bought my first-ever gaming console – love it. Stays offline, just in case Sony wants to brick my PS4, too (fucking hypothetical corporate bullies!)...

Imagine a day where Sony drives around with trucks broadcasting WiFi signals instructing rogue, ostensibly-"offline" PS5s to self-destruct, via backdoor GHz...

Welcome to /hn/ – I've appreciated many of your varied contributions (keep it up!).
