I’m pretty sure they mean perceptible complexity at the level of the human eye. Of course, everything has quarks and leptons in infinitely complex patterning.
Language is just a shortcut to logic. LLMs don’t seem to have the capacity to logic, they just pattern match. LLMs seem conscious because they are pattern matching against all of human written cognition.
Yeah dealing with this now, where my CTO is shipping features that are producing plausible results but just wrong. So, now I gotta spend all day explaining the math behind certain features to her, and she copies and pastes it to Claude.
Disclaimer: I’m not fluent in Arabic by any means, but the stretched out to both margins style looks very Quranic to me. I don’t think it looks appropriate for say, a message about my DoorDasher.
Repro (de-identified): sample_dataset_group1.tsv
- Geometry: Heatmap
- X axis: frac_set set + condition (two columns → the "Add column" cross join)
- Y axis: condition
- Color: mean frac_set value, Sequential
When the X axis is a cross join of two columns (the second added via "Add column"), the x-axis tick labels (frac_set_2, frac_set_3, frac_set_4, frac_set_5) render in a broken
state, rotated and offset, visually caught mid-transition, as if a CSS transition started and never settled to its resting position.

This is the right take. In my opinion, AI can’t ever be conscious but I can’t really prove it - moreover it’s not even a scientific stance because it’s not even falsifiable. But it probably doesn’t matter.
Niche content for sure is the best thing Reddit is for. I only go there for info on my favorite instruments, and a few other shitposting communities for games and shows I watch.
