Can you share more about your hardware setup? I am planning on installing something like this, but I am in the very early stages.

It's dead for you and me since we won't willfully use any of the slop products they put out, but as long as they produce the default OS for most of the PCs that the average Joe buys, they aren't going anywhere. I'm not entirely sure how this works, but I don't think there are many Linux distros/organizations that will pay for manufacturers to install Linux on the PCs.

The there is also the cloud like other comments already mentioned.

How so? I use the 3M yellow ones for many years and I find the pretty good. I buy like a box of 200 pairs and use them for a couple of times, so they are also pretty cheap.

A couple days ago there was this article on hn about a startup from Canada making tractors with no electronics and they mentioned that they had 400 orders overnight. I hope we will see something like this also for cars. I suspect the demand is there.

I grew up using windows and was a fan of it, but now I am a contrarian because of how shitty it has become. The fact that it is widely used is not an argument that it is good. It is widely used because of existing market share and reluctance of change by people.

I think he meant non-human translators, like Google translate etc. Those translations were indeed not making any sense sometimes. Although I have heard that they improved Google translate in the recent years.

What is bad about brew? I have used it in the past and I found it fine. With apt I have less experience since I only used it when playing with a raspberry pi.

And here am I thinking that my life depends too much on the internet and the knowledge you can find on it. So if something big/extreme happens like nuclear war, major internet outage etc, I know nothing. No recipes, so basic medical stuff, like how to use antibiotics, electronics knowledge, whatever. I don't have any books with stuff like that like my parents used to. I have seen some examples of backed up Wikipedia for offline usage and local llms etc and am thinking of implementing something as a precaution for these extreme events.

>>With Linux, you just have to be prepared to hit a bug and find no help coming anytime.

Mate there are bugs in windows and macos that have been unfixed for years. This is not a good argument in my opinion.

I'm in this exact situation described in the two comments above. I explained to my manager that the project I have been working on has developed a lot since the last two years and if he would hire a replacement he would be looking at a senior person, not a junior. He agrees but he gets rejected when he made the case to his boss. My performance reviews have been above expectations. His boss claimed that it would not be fair to other people that stayed in the position for a similar amount of time before getting a promotion, essentially ignoring my exceptional performance.

Do you guys have any advice for this situation?
