The author of the article didn't bother to include "there are indications that the active ingredient could be an element in the platinum group metals, maybe rhodium. The are signs of illicite designer drug research around these metals going back as far as 2004." But, it doesn't mean we need to wander around in the headspace of a casual current event type of world news piece. Just go get the answer and in so doing you get perspective on the designer drug industry and how this particular cocktail came about.

The article talked about the brain because the researchers talked about the brain and they aren't modest about what they say they discovered. Blame the scien(ce/tists) not the journalist if the conclusion is disagreeable.

How many years until a solo hobbyist launches a rocket that crosses the Karman line? I bet as soon as three years and not longer than five years. Ground-based research isn't your only tool in the near future.
Their nimbyism is silly. Nothing is going to hold back this next period. The entire planet will be connected soon and that's when the internet moves out of alpha and into beta. Complaining about a few thousand satellites will seem quant in ten years :P
Maybe. It's always possible that as a civilization we are saddled with too many never-going-to-progress-until-we-stop-doing-x technologies. Maybe it's not a distraction, but using a market to develop a capability that will save billions.
Have you tried Spero sunflower cream cheese? I would say it is less like a cream cheese exactly and more like a new food on its own (like hummus or guacamole, but neutral and pair-able in taste like cheese or butter). The Goat on some toast with a dollop of jam will kill any cheese pastry envy. It is very good, even special. Vegan food is best when it draws inspiration without exact imitation and Spero really created something unique.
