Toward the end I was using PalmOS almost exclusively with fingertip input rather than a stylus.
The 5-way navigator on newer devices is still arguably better than anything we have on modern smartphones; you could page through Launcher categories using the hardware button, select an app using up/down left/right and open it with the center button. You could even navigate the menus without touching the screen at all. Much of the UI could be interacted with this way.
There was even a third-party keyboard which was somewhat usable without a stylus (although best in landscape mode).
But the iPhone brought capacitive multitouch to the table and changed everything. Even discounting the multitouch (eg pinch-to-zoom) features, it was lightyears ahead in terms of sensitivity and precision. There was just no comparison!
would be nice and IMO appropriate for this forum to hear how you got to launch! I seem to remember talking to you guys way back in 2016 (as "Phenom") so I'm sure there's an interesting story to be told.
In my experience CalDigit docks are really solid. The only issue I've ever encountered is caused by my laptop demanding more power than the dock will provide: when I hit a power usage spike sometimes my laptop will briefly drop connection with the dock, causing my display to momentarily lose signal.
This is easily fixed by plugging my laptop into a separate USB C power supply.
What's wrong with consistent hashing (hash requests and servers into a single coordinate space eg an array, randomly distributed, scan forward from the request until you find a server)?
I'm a full stack developer with extensive experience launching tech products (as cofounder, founding engineer, or in a consulting capacity). My ideal tech stack is AWS/Node and native iOS, but I've built GCP + React Native products as well -- I'm product focused and motivated to build.
I'm just getting off a project in NYC (hybrid) where I was the first hire for a delivery logistics startup, building multiple iOS apps and an AWS-based backend. We scaled to 20 employees (where I took a tech leadership role) and processed more than $60M in sales across multiple cities.
We can start building right away. I've usually started as a cofounder or 'freelancer' on contract, and moved to a more permanent role as the company raised and started the hiring process. I'm flexible.
I have over 10 YOE and can help architect and build your entire technology stack.
