Indeed one of the things that got raised is that they do not appear to have adequate resources to conduct a mass revocation if signing key material were lost, because they rely on slow manual processes. If they are too constrained to do even minor things, then they REALLY cannot respond to emergencies.

I agree, but would add this: I think turning buying an operating system into a push-your-luck video game with serious, real-life, negative consequences is bad. Average consumers (and many contractors) are not equipped to evaluate the risks they are taking on with this stuff, and the marketing puffery is impossible to decipher even for people who do this for a living.

Many many millions for a chatbot that slurps your emails or an integrated web browser that reports to the mothership, but no room in the budget for proper EDR because cloud storage. I just don't buy this argument at all.

An operating system is by definition a security product, because one of the key features of an operating system is access control.

In the future, there will be only two companies. One will hold the patent on walking up a hill, while the other will hold the patent on walking down a hill. The major debate will be whose patent you are violating if you are only halfway up.

We've got plenty of hard problems to work out before we can haul off to Europa, at least with people. Solving those problems will be more impactful in the long run than whatever we might find there. I mean, you could drive to Alaska for an ice cream cone, but the fact that you can get one out of your fridge is more impactful to you personally. Also, I try not to get too caught up in imagining specifics. Often we overlook the valuable and surprising because we are looking for the wrong thing: the thing we expect to see.
