ouf yeah, I agree. I had a lot more to say about this but the ICE checkpoint found my smuggled kinder egg and now they're sending me off to alligator alcatraz.

It's all good anyway, statistically I'm 3 times more likely to die on the way there than those nannied europeans so freedom wins in the end.

I also have an EX30 and while I have many many MANY complaints about this car, driver monitoring isn't one of them.

Also disabling this feature is only 2 taps (because EU says it can't be only one tap), Settings -> toggle Driver Monitoring.

The Volvo EX30/EX90 and Polestars 3/4/5 don't have a backup physical key or even buttons on the remote to force an unlock. That works exactly how you'd expect :)

The stock fell down to the price it was a SIX days ago. It was even lower at 321$ 11 days ago. Guess the guardian forgot to mention that.

My theory is that people buy mass-market Porsche cars because the 718/911 guys tell everyone how cool these cars are, but not everyone wants or needs a kidney-busting two-seater, so they compromise with a Panamera or Macan.

If there's no electric 718/911 version to hype them up, there’s not going to be any demand. There's also the issue that they're known for their small sporty cars, yet they're trying to sell 5m-long sedans and 'soccer mom' SUVs and failing at it.

The Volvo EX30 / MG4 XPower would fit in the hot hatch / sub-compact crossover crossover. Both cars are the size of a raised VW Polo at 4.2m length while having over 400hp and around 3.5 secs to 60.

While not exactly cheap, you can get the MG for under 30k eur if you shop around for some discounts and the volvo at around 35-40k. considering a 300hp golf R is over 50k eur they're pretty great options for some cheap fun. Cheap as in total cost of ownership, not just purchase price.

Also, the SC01 people just announced that they plan to bring it to Europe [1] so that's gonna be a great option.

They're also a lot more resilient at extreme temperatures. Your range will be crap, but you can count on it running in -30C or more without problems.

Tesla cars to be banned from Chinese government buildings amid security fears.

I wonder what China knows :)

I went from a 2021 Opel Mokka (4.2m long, 1350kg) to a 2024 Volvo EX30 (4.2m long, 2000kg).

It was an absolute shock the first time I braked in the Volvo, not to mention trying to take a corner.

Exactly. I was very surprised to find out a fully loaded 40 ton electric truck only uses ~100kw / 100km ( https://www.youtube.com/@electrictrucker ) when my 2 ton Volvo averages 20-22kw/100km on road trips.

I got burnt by this bug on freakin' Christmas Eve 2020 ( https://forum.hddguru.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=40766 ). There was some data loss and a lot of lessons learned.

A friend of a friend (doctor as well) got taken for ~20.000 eur while being kept on the phone for over 6 hours using the "security breach at your bank" story. She said they got her so into the story that she really saw no issues going to the Crypto ATM at the local mall and doing 15 (FIFTEEN!) purchases there because a "police inspector" told her that's the only safe place for her money. They had a fake website where she could "see" her deposits but she was with the guy on the phone and was telling him "I made another deposit" ...

I found an point-of-sale minipc with a very nice integrated touchscreen (Pipo X10). As I kept getting unrecognized usb device on a usb-serial adapter I entered bios and played with a few usb-related bios settings. Save & Exit and I discovered I just disabled ALL my usb ports with no way to reset the bios or any other available port to plug an input device into.

So yeah, the CMOS battery not clearing the bios + my own stupidity cost me ~150$.
