It's easy to be queasy about brain implants but the promise is so vast. I ride motorcycles and my wife rides horses, we're both relatively at risk of becoming paraplegic. In the past, that seemed like a death sentence. Now, if I could just pipe my brain into my dev environment, getting paralyzed and getting a neuralink just seems like another phase of life.

It just seems to be so brutal to be poor.

After years of living in San Mateo county, I moved across the bay to a reasonably nice apartment complex in Hayward. Within a week, I noticed pro-nazi messages in Spanish carved into the picnic tables at the local park. Within a few months, my car had been broken into twice, my garage had been broken in 4 times, and someone set a bush on fire next to my car and it melted some of the plastic on the front driver's quarter panel. I moved away but not everyone has the option.

I get why people work so hard to avoid being poor!

no one's trying to compare across different traditions and your story is uncharitably critical of Europeans, could you pleases use a more ethnically neutral example in the future?

It's natural that universities will experience political accountability as they become more politically active. Education consumes a lot of resources, it's only natural that it's the subject of a lot of scrutiny.
