This specific research may not be morally corrupt in itself, nor may his intentions be bad, but it could absolutely lead to something horrific. Nuclear technology was also initially developed with good intentions and provided much good for humanity. But of course it ended with biggest bad actors having a lot of nuclear weapons.

The second I see a rocket, star, or flame emoji, I stop reading. The overwhelming amount of bullshit on this site is fascinating. Bullshitters posting bullshit while other bullshitters react with “Interesting.”

They don't even remove the em dashes!

It is absolutely useless for actively searching for a job. Their job search is terrible and constantly shows unrelated results. The only useful part is that recruiters can contact you directly, which is how most jobs seem to be filled today.

Exactly. I consider myself euro federalist but bullshit like this creating a very strong antipathy.

If this is not some shady maneuver to scan user messages for security reason, because of, for example, possible incoming war then it's beyond absurd.

I would doubt that politicians pushing this are not understanding that pedophiles simply do not need to use these apps they are scanning. But I saw questioning of tech CEOs by older US officials and the lack of even basic knowledgeable about current technologies was ridiculously astounding.

As far as I understand this. It basically gives the company providing chat services the possibility to scan your messages.

Or you can just host your own server like IRC. This is beyond idiotic, if they think that pedophiles will begin to suddenly use WhatsApp then I very much doubt about their basic literacy.

Such a weak reasoning and method which they used to push this is ridiculous agenda lead me to strongly suspect there must be something else behind it.

I gave up reading when I got my first portable computer. Not sure why. But after some time I got sick of it and got back to reading and I love it!

For some reason I suddenly got an urge to read long deep fantasy. Storm light archive is perfect for this, I recommend play some fantasy reading music on background. It's a bliss, especially in summer afternoon with cold coffe.

Then maybe you should not read prose. It is about conveying an experience, a story. You might have simply picked a bad author. Personally, I prefer long reads. I understand that some people might not enjoy that style of storytelling, but saying “give up reading” overall is a shame. Try something like Warhammer 40k novels. They are simple, entertaining, and split into shorter parts. What you are describing does not happen there.

Interesting phenomens are often discussed here so I personally do not perceive it as offtopic. Yet as you said, I have the same feeling from this article. Click bait grievance posting.

>"Eurobarometer by the EU shows Europeans love the EU"

seems legit lol

Probably because most Europeans are clueless and brainwashed by MSM pro-EU propaganda, and never hear about the nasty things the EU tries to do like chat control, age-ID, car surveillance, or taxing parcels.

So which is it?

Are the stats fake, or are Europeans actually saying this because they are brainwashed?

Because you are trying to have both. First, official EU polling is illegitimate propaganda. Then, in the next breath, you explain why Europeans really do support the EU. That means the poll is not fake. You just hate the answer.

Every result you dislike is fake, and every person who disagrees with you is brainwashed. Very brave epistemology.

You are mistaking Hacker News for Xitter or Truth Social. This is not an argument, it is just a pile of buzzwords and grievance posting.

“Next Stasi”, “eurocrats”, “cripple domestic agriculture”, “dumping German diesel cars”, “useless talk”. None of this actually responds to the point about European energy dependence.

I agree on the base of the argument. EU after all was created because of one tragedy. I'm absolutely sure that there will be more gruesome wars on the continent and I even wouldn't rule out the collapse in the future because petty tribalism holding everything back as always.

But this is the hatred you are talking about?

Maybe “your own city” would be a more precise metaphor than “your own house”. Your country is your house, but the EU is the city around it, with the roads, infrastructure, shared rules, market, security, and institutions that make the house function.

The concept of a modern nation is also relatively new. It emerged as an identity for groups of people who were no longer defined mainly by the monarchs ruling over them. That identity replaced the king as the symbol of belonging.

But now nationalism is often doing the opposite. Instead of freeing people from old power structures, it is holding Europe back.

So yes, maybe it is not literally “your house”, but the point still stands. Burning down the city around your house is not exactly a smart move either.

Exactly. This is ridiculous behavior. Simple solutions for complex problems are usually the wrong ones.

One griefer which promised prosperit fueled Brexit, which caused Britain visible stagnation and now he is a candidate for MP promising to fixing it all yet again.

I need to repeat, that Simple solutions for complex problems usually do not work.

That was mainly my point. If you are paying for security, you are paying for someone's obedience. Not even mentioning that European armies dependant on American weapons is gigantic security risk, which no one ever will be held accountable. This all I perceive as biggest US influence based weapon which is slowly slipping away.

I understand that politically it is sold as that European countries are leeches, which is absolutely an valid optic, but I believe this was still trade benefiting US more than Europeans.

Needles to say I would gladly see my country spend much more on military, reform pensions system which is absolutely botched and become much more self-confident.
