The article doesn't emphasize it, but Assisted Access also adds back the home/back button, like older iPhones and Androids. There is no more swipe-up motion that I see my parents struggle with because they did it too slow or started from slightly too high on the screen.

I completely understand why Apple and Google removed the buttons (gotta maximize that screen real estate), but the affordance for an obvious home/reset button is great for some people.

It's just a plan, it doesn't mean that Russia or China is able or willing to execute it.

> The planned weapon architecture aims to engage targets operating in near space at altitudes up to 40 kilometers and maneuvering at lateral g-forces of up to 25, a capability that would surpass any defense system currently fielded by the Russian military.

The US likely has all kinds of secret plans to invade Canada, North Korea, or the Moon. It doesn't mean that those invasions are imminent or even practical. They're just plans that get analysts thinking.

Wouldn't a fragmented, decentralized system also help make their supply chains more resilient? If they had a single large drone factory, it would be a sizable target.

There are some side effects with blood transfusions that may be an experiment in itself. For example, blood bags can transfer plasticizers to the blood, which is a method to detect if athletes have been doping.

I think that's a good case for shared notes, that all the participants can see and agree on. However the AI notes I've seen are compiled long after the meeting is done.

It's not just the cost of the antennas. This device barely has a screen and has like four buttons total. How are you going to type in a wifi password?

This is definitely a thing that's been studied in schools:

However, note taking in a business sense is usually different than note taking in an academic sense. Business meetings are more often used to make decisions, unlike academics where lectures are intended to disseminate information.

Older energy meters don't track the difference between incoming and outgoing energy, so backfeeding the grid just looks like more usage.

I do doubt the importance of utilities paying people for generating power at peak solar generation times.

People who are happy with their keyboard over a long period of time don't bother to test their WPM and tell other people on the internet about it. Nor do they regularly buy new keyboards and screw up their muscle memory.

I've been using some kind of split keyboard for the past 25 years, last eight on a Kinesis. My WPM on a normal keyboard is ghastly.

I was hoping for this to happen with Framework. Alas, it did not.

BMW doesn't seem to use that specific X anywhere else for any of their EV lineup. Even the back of the car uses a normal "X" character.

I think it's some mandate to give their car models some kind of "signature" headlight design.

100 years ago, we built apartment heaters so strong that they worked with the windows open, because we believed that fresh air would fight against the flu:

> the area becomes an enclave for the wealthy with a high unhoused population, where most youth have to move away.

Yeah, that's already happened. SF is the US city with the least amount of children, where schools have to close due to declining enrollment.

Answering texts seems to be the only specific function that I must do with my phone and no other device. Otherwise, practically every other device is better to use than a phone.

And if you put those time-wasting apps on a tablet that stays at home instead of your phone, you can't accidentally waste your time when being out and about.

This article is a bit dated (2022), as Apple now has iPhone mirroring if you have a compatible Mac.

We need these foreign companies here so that we can learn from them to modernize our manufacturing. Not just cars either.

That's how China got started - foreign companies were allowed to partner with and invest in domestic companies. Over time, those domestic companies took over and helped China become the manufacturing powerhouse it is now, not just in China, but globally.

Also, Apple probably wants the increases to happen while Cook is still CEO, rather than having new CEO Ternus announce the bad news.
