How many paper menus could one buy vs. the cost of a tablet and the backend for the digital menu?

This really bothered me. They absolutely bury the lede that you need a Visa card selected as your Express Transit card. The whole thing is cool, from a hacking perspective, but also feels like they’re being dishonest to make an outrageous video.

You expect me to believe MKBHD keeps a Visa card with $10,000 ready to go as his Express Transit card? I mean, sure, maybe, he is doing extremely well. But he also seems like the kind of informed tech guy that would put two and two together, i.e. “I pay for things so often using my phone I can’t be bothered to authenticate with Face ID, I’ll just put my phone in my pocket and hope no hacker comes by and holds a reader near my phone.”

Get a broken 27" iMac, rip out the guts, and slap in a converter board that adds a bunch of inputs. It's not nearly as difficult to build as most of the blogs make it out to be.

I sit right between design and development. I've held web development positions as well as design-based roles. I've worked at huge companies and startups. At the end of the day I just want to use computers to help people and solve problems.

I’d love to see a click wheel attachment for input, then it could become a neo-iPod.

Get an Apple Silicon MacBook with a broken screen and it’s an even better deal.

My dream has always been to work at the company that created the Macintosh. I enjoy thinking about how we interact with computers and making designs like Apple does. I'm not interested in working anywhere else -- I have a pays-the-bills job and I have an insane amount of patience. I like what Apple does and see most every other tech design as a fight for second place.

Apple, get at me -- I have a music UI that I think could improve upon on your work along with so, so many ideas. I'm happy to carry water for you until I can get your interns coffee.

You're site looks good! I don't know what v1.0 looked like, but this one is great. Constructive criticism: have you tried adding some fancy moving shadows to your portfolio images? I think adding one on hover would really drive that style home.

Hello, my name is Dillon. I like thinking about ways to make technology approachable. Put another way, I like translating nerdy stuff into tools normal people can use. Computers are magical to me and I want to contribute my work to something more meaningful than, say, advertising. Instead, I want to bring this magical-feeling to people through my work.

My career has manifested in digital design, but if given the chance I would love to try designing physical things, too. In my work I value simplicity, accessibility, and reusability (I was a front-end dev for four years and understand the value of designs that can be built easily).

I'm a boring designer. In my free time I design the most boring Mac apps. For example, here is a mockup interface I made for an open source macOS app that I love: https://dillonbrown.me/images/mockups/finicky-1.png. To me, boring is beautiful, boring is usable and reliable. I don't make dribbble show-ponies, I make workhorses.

Please take a look at my website (https://dillonbrown.me) to get a sample of the kind of work I can make for you.

I am a designer with some front-end web development experience. I am obsessed with creating accessible and beautiful ways for normal people to use powerful tools. Please take a look at my portfolio (https://dillonbrown.me) to get a glimpse of how I operate.
