This is a completely reasonable take. You don't have a right to live in a city that requires $50/hr to live comfortably. $21/hr is an amazing pay rate for what is essentially unskilled labor
A version of the gold standard with the dollar pegged to gold for international trade partners was reintroduced in 1945 post WWII and that's what's Nixon suspended. Just like a true gold standard, it put a check on how much dollars the government could print
Despite my disagreement with him, Peter Thiel has a right to hold an opinion on which candidate he supports, and the right to donate to the candidate of his choice. It's a presidential election. You can't call it a fair election if as a society, we're threatening to punish people for supporting one candidate over another.
I'm fine with Exxon benefitting from a carbon tax. They have the political clout to push a bill like this through Congress, and it benefits the country as a whole to have carbon legislation in place. Seems like a win-win to me.
