This article felt like a wake-up call for me. I’ve always thought of Herb Sutter as a visionary for C++, and I’ve watched many of his talks. However, the author makes a valid point: in the end, much of what he promised either didn’t materialize or, if it did, was later abandoned.

It’s a reminder not to take things at face value and to consider that there’s often more happening behind the scenes than we realize.

So, where do we go from here? Can we realistically do anything? Should we abandon C++ altogether, or do we continue building on a flawed foundation, knowing its limitations?

It seems unlikely that there will be any significant changes in C++ leadership. Convincing government bodies or other stakeholders to switch to a better-governed alternative also feels like a distant prospect.

Ultimately, the challenges we face in C++ seem to reflect broader issues in society itself.

Is this something that's US-only? The website doesn't say (or at least I couldn't find it) and I'm not keen on creating yet another account for a service just to be met with disappointment

I'm currently trying to learn music production and composition to put the singing classes I'm taking to use.

It feels a bit more daunting than when I was first learning how to program, since there appears to be numerous more tutorials, but half of them are only there to promote a course and it's hard to distinguish good learning material from bad.

I'm on team "it should be up to the employee to decide".

I like the flexibility that remote work gives me, but at the same time I also enjoy going to the office because it forces me to get out of the house, and interact with people at the office.

Admittedly, if I were full remote, I'd probably rent a desk at a co-working space, so I could get that office-like feeling.

I need more posts like this and the vanilla ice cream one recently posted. Does the category of weird these problems belong to have a specific name or something?

I honestly don't see any benefits to the Dev Home app as is besides Dev Drive, which could be cool if it is that simple to just create a drive that is sandboxed.

Perhaps the community will whip up (most likely not), extensions for stuff like Sentry or CI/CD. Could be a neat thing then.

Intel's already's going to this, though
