This may be just one bad employee, i.e., Mr. Tan. Your quoted sentences say OpenAI did such and such, but it may all be just Mr. Tan. That's not to say OpenAI is not responsible because they are supposed to give strong guidance to new hires that they are not to bring any confidential information from their former employer.

"Boko Haram" translates to "Western education is forbidden". Using Western AI as an educational tool seems like hypocrisy.

They can, that's how they know. The concern is that if they block, some legit users will get blocked as well, due to false positives. Remember, the distillation may not be happening from Chinese IP addresses.

Isn't that a bit like working in the movie industry and no longer being able to enjoy films because you are always thinking about how they were made and noticing their flaws?

Relatively speaking Trump 1.0 had a sane cabinet. Yes, there were some crazies, sure, but relative to the people he has around him now, they seem sane.

If the President hires someone who then restarted research that previous admin stopped for being too dangerous, does the President get no part of the blame? The buck stops with the President. If he hired the wrong person--and he has hired plenty of wrong people this time around--he gets the blame for the disasters they cause.

Not sure what is partisan about this. Some facts were presented. Not opinions, facts. If you dispute any of the above is factual please back up your assertion with citations.

Not many people know that Trump had a hand in starting the pandemic.

Here's what we know: In 2014, Obama administration halted the so called "gain of function" research because of risk of laboratory accidents. In 2017, the Trump administration restarted this dangerous research. See links below.

https://www.nytimes.com/2014/10/18/us/white-house-to-cut-fun...

Excerpt: [Obama administration] White House announced Friday that it would temporarily halt all new funding for experiments that seek to study certain infectious agents by making them more dangerous. The White House said the moratorium decision had been made “following recent biosafety incidents at federal research facilities.”

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/19/health/lethal-viruses-nih...

Excerpt: [Trump administration] on Tuesday ended a moratorium imposed three years ago on funding research that alters germs to make them more lethal. Critics say these researchers risk creating a monster germ that could escape the lab and seed a pandemic.

So, Trump restarted the dangerous research that Obama had shut down. You may be thinking, what does that have to do with Covid? Covid started in Wuhan, China, right?

It turns out that the Trump administration, through the National Institutes of Health (NIH), provided funding to the EcoHealth Alliance, an American non-profit organization focused on studying emerging diseases. The EcoHealth Alliance, in turn, provided funding to the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China for researching bat coronaviruses. The rest is history.

And then Trump also disbanded the pandemic preparedness team in 2018 just in time for the pandemic. See link below.

> China has not been threatening military annexation

Maybe not in Europe, but ask their Asian neighbors.

> The USA is far more dangerous a "friend" than China is an acquaintance.

That's true and will continue to be true for 2.5 more years. European countries too have had bad leaders (like Germany), but have recovered. So too will the US.

> China is a far better international partner than the USA.

China is not a democracy and does not share western values.

This just came out: Trump reports more than $1.4 billion in income from crypto ventures [1]. He received more than $500 million from World Liberty Financial, a crypto venture he and his sons co-founded. Trump reported another $635 million from the sale of his $TRUMP meme coins.

$TRUMP meme coin shot up to $75 two days after launch. It has lost most of its value [2]. Guess who got rich off the people who invested in $TRUMP coin?

A UAE-linked investment firm acquired a 49% stake in Trump's World Liberty Financial for $500 million just before Trump's January 2025 inauguration, directing significant upfront payments to Trump family entities.

Sure, but what if someone steals your money by impersonating you? Here too, ideally the victim is the bank, but now the onus is on you to convince the bank that they are the victim. They are going to say you're the victim, your identity got stolen, sorry you lost all your savings!

We need to update our laws. This is not "Identity Theft", this is "Negligent Verification Fraud", and it is the bank's fault because they were lax in their verification process.

No, you can't rename a file in use, unless it is explicitly opened with a sharing flag (which most applications don't).
