There actually is a well defined demarcation point where the site owners wishes do apply. It's called... A demarc point! Everything that happens past this point is by definition entirely in the control of the admin. Which includes closing the door on whoever they wish. This is a technical reality, not something you can effect with opinions or wanting things more than other people want other things. It might seem contradictory but this is actually the main thing that makes the internet as free as it is.

Tokens in a casino is pretty accurate if you think about it. You never really know what you'll get so it's tempting to "roll" over and over, thinking every roll puts you closer to a bellringer. It can even get addicting for some people.

In my experience it's always been easier to work with terrible human programmers because the terribleness of their code is inherently bound to human comprehension. Of course I've seen some absolutely massive messes created by humans. But generally if a human wrote it then a human can understand it. Also it takes an amount of time and effort for a human to create this kind of mess which tends to actually be more effort than what a more experienced person will expend to fix what is wrong with it. LLMs flip all this on it's head. Plus there's the thing the Godot statement talks about. I have a completely different willingness to help a struggling noob rise through the same trajectory I did, compared to fixing someone else's LLM code.

I think I'm also going to refer people to the Godot foundation's statement on this from now on. Too often people try to lay it out like a moral conundrum, or some kind of purity test for "real" programmers vs larpers, but that's all just lips flapping. Meanwhile there are real-life practical consequences that follow taking AI contributions, and the Godot foundation has done a great job articulating what those things are. It's very nice for there to be a voice like saying these things.

The labor shortage crisis has been going for over 200 years now, yet nobody can name a company that has died or otherwise suffered negative consequences as a result of it.

Custom css email themes aka "stationary", which other people can see on emails from you. These are still a very prominent part of email but I don't see anyone expressing their individuality with it anymore. It feels like a huge blast from the past to get one with any kind of theme that doesn't look like something a bank would use.

There was also "smileys" but I never used those because smileys were considered tacky. Yet it's the thing that stuck harder than anything else.

I really really really hope the point of stuff of like this is NOT to make martyrs of randomly selected people in a foreign country. That would be an absolutely demented thing to try for. Not to mention the arrogance of thinking you need to show foreign people what their country is like. They know that better than you.

I guess the threat of this is what's unclear. The cryptobros are going to take over the world and then do what exactly?

RCE has no meaning either in these situations. The "remote" part is usually an ssh root session if it means anything at all.

I've been in situations where I had to supply a digital version of a signed document but the person asking for it required that it be physically printed off to be signed and then scanned back in. Some policy thing. I think it would technically be fraud to use this but that's one use I thought of.

The description however seems like the creator just likes how scanned documents look. They describe it like how analogue music fans describe vinyl records. I guess everything is nostalgic to someone out there eventually.

It's like I said, the degree to which productivity is in the equation.

Money just looping around until settling on a few people, otherwise doing nothing else = zero productivity, zero value

Action which results in a bit of productivity = a bit of value

Action with results in lots of productivity = lots of value

I'd say the exact degree of separation where it becomes "a problem" is roughly equal to the exact number of sand grains that form a pile. I can tell you one area where society is already suffering greatly from dead economy and that's the housing market. The downstream impact of that industry not being realistic is happening right now.

Also I would like to refer people to a story called "The Golden Goose." Everyone seems familiar with it but it doesn't seem like most people have seen the end.

Always one of the same two excuses.

1. It actually is working perfectly you just don't have smart enough eyes to see it.

2. Making stuff work is too hard, and expecting that from us is the real thing ruining society.

Going for number 1 here is crazy. If I got that email, my mind would certainly run but my response would say "sorry but we're not supposed to be dealing in snuff porn here" which IS a directive ChatGPT is supposed to have. Like hello you are on earth right?

There used to be much more of a belief that the reason this stuff has an appreciable value to speak of is because it's either creating a channel for society's productivity or it's creating a position to skim pennies off of society's productivity. But less and less does it feel like productivity is even in the equation anymore. What the quoted statement describes is much closer to a Ponzi scheme than what finance is actually supposed to be about, but it's getting harder and harder to tell the difference.

Also if the cutoff point for raising concerns about this was hundreds of years ago that really sucks for everyone alive today.

Reminds me of the "banned book" table every book store has now. The place where so called banned books are given the most prominent display in the whole store with discounts if you buy a novelty pencil or something alongside it.

I thought we would all be over this after the dr seuss thing.

Im getting really tired of these cloudflare anti-ddos screens. They take forever, often literally. There's another one of these that shows an anime girl, whatever that one is, it's way better.

Not trying to accuse anyone of anything but this sounds exactly like one of those scam courses that turns out to be a pyramid scheme centered around selling the course to other people.

I have a bunch of ffmpeg scripts for specific things like compressing to 10MB for discord.
