I have been largely unimpressed by how they operate as a company handling users.
Six weeks ago, I tried to change my email but got frustrated that an obvious option wasn’t available in the settings page. So I deleted my account and went to create a new one. When I got to the phone verification, it told me that my phone number could only be used for two accounts, so I was not allowed to sign up. This was the second account I attempted to create, so my phone had only been used once. Naturally, I tried using my google voice phone number, but the system told me that type of number wasn’t allowed.
At this point, I navigated to their support page and had to talk with a chat bot that apparently isn’t powered by ChatGPT. I found it maddening and couldn’t locate an email address to communicate with a human. After a few 10 minute sessions over the course of a few days in search of an email, I finally located one. So I fired off an email explaining how I no longer had access due difficulties stemming from wanting to change my email.
After four weeks, I finally got a response that I’m not sure was written by a human. It completely misunderstood my succinctly described issue and desired resolution. I went back and forth multiple times with support including them suggesting if I am unhappy with their service to sign up for a pro account, pay for the service, and then request a refund. Ignoring the irrationality of the suggestion, I explained how I couldn’t log in to an account at all and simply wanted to access their service again. They continued to insist that once an account is deleted, it is deleted permanently, and I can never have access again. I don’t recall a warning of these major implications at the time of deleting my account with an old email address. At this point, I requested to be escalated to a human and have not heard back for a week now.
Admittedly, I shouldn’t have deleted my account initially, but I had decided that ChatGPT was something I wanted to continue using and needed to switch to my new email address since I have deprecated my old one. This entire process has left me so unimpressed with their company. It’s truly ridiculous how complicated every step has been along the way when I’m normally competent at these types of tasks.
That’s great! I really appreciate these rom hacks that fix errors in the original game to allow for an ideal version. How do you go about hacking a SNES rom? What tools and language do you use?
I have been thinking about doing exactly this for Saturday morning cartoons to stream anime to my PVM once I can figure out how to stream 480i from a modern device to RGB.
Would consider sharing how you set it up? I’d love to do something similar!
I wonder if the workplace has gradually become worse for ADHD workers as the number of secretaries continues to decline[0]. Anecdotally, early in my career when I had little sway, I was often tasked with scheduling meetings, taking minutes, and keeping track of various things on behalf of my boss while still having to perform my own job. I think this sort of role would have been previously handled by a secretary that workers at my boss’ level no longer have access to.
Keeping track of that logistical stuff is a nightmare and is directly incompatible for most with ADHD. And then as the ADHD worker progresses in their career, they no longer get a secretary who would have offloaded these incompatible tasks for them previously. This new setup distracts ADHD workers from focusing on what they’re good at. It then becomes a terrible look to a neurotypical (NT) person when an ADHD person forgets a meeting or a little request that isn’t part of their core work. To an NT individual, forgetting to do these little things is baffling, but it’s a part of having ADHD.
Add in an environment where people want to have meetings all the time and instant messaging services constantly pinging your computer, and I can see how the modern workplace is a very tough situation for an ADHD worker to demonstrate that they’re going above and beyond when their workflow is not catered to. I do think the shift to working from home from the previous open office layouts is very much in favor to those with ADHD, so it’s not all bad.
Perhaps one day there won’t be such a stigma against neurodiversity where those who are neurodivergent (ND) have to hide it and mask during the entire working day. If we reach that point, we’ll be able to put ND individuals in environments that let them achieve their full potentials and thrive in situations where NT individuals cannot.
I'm not surprised in the slightest at these newspaper headlines in the linked tweets. They seem par for the course where I live.
I sold my car at a profit two months ago and have been walking, cycling, and riding the bus where I need to go. Occasionally my trip calls for an Uber/Lyft. Wow, I have become a pariah in some people's eyes. People have made comments to my face about how it's odd I don't own a car and how it would be best that I get another. Someone scoffed when I answered their question of how I got to their place from mine when I told them I took the bus on a direct route.
People do seem to be publicly supportive of me biking for short trips and for exercise, but they're mostly still in the phase of being introduced to the idea that someone could survive only biking. Biking as a primary form of transportation is still a foreign concept to them. I live in a very central part of the city, but this is a car dominated Texas city.
Unfortunately, biking infrastructure and car etiquette is extremely poor around here. I find myself having to carefully choose my routes and am unable to reach certain places by bike that are quite close because it's not worth the risk. I hope cars begin to open more to the idea of bicyclists being around. A lot of great people I know have expressed negative sentiments towards bicyclists, so I have to believe there's a larger cultural issue at play.
