... and mind you, there were no fast food restaurants either. So it took a really long time.

There's an idea for a series: a space opera with a cutting edge analytics-enhanced Ferengi ship where "it's continuing mission is to explore strange new ad streams, to fleece out new life and new civilisations, to boldly trade where no one has gone before".

The main adversary will be the cookie monster.

I don't think that these are equivalent. This issue is similar to saying that every conversation will be recorded by default, unless you opt out of a recording beforehand.

Oh sorry, did not know that. Thanks for replying. I will try sway out in my next install.

At this point, Wayland looks like GNU HURD. Probably it is better, but the milestones keep shifting. I will stick to Xorg, since it supports tiling window managers better.

Bananas are the prime cautionary tale against monoculture. The number of native breeds which are now gone for the sake of promotion of one particular breed leads to less resilience against disease and pests. Just in my corner of India, there are various varieties. [1] However, in the U.S., the only variety you often get to see is the insipid Cavendish, whose only merit seems to be shelf-life.

If you travel in the tropics, do try out local varieties. It is an amazing fruit (?).

Post Jio, India has one of the cheapest data rates in the world. Sometimes when you go elsewhere, one tends to accidentally turn on data and use it the same way as in India, and I have been bitten like this once. Luckily it was prepaid, so the damage was contained.

I was sad when I read the book. I remember reading about how Carmack and Romero drifted apart. Though the consensus seems to be that it was better for id that Romero left, I believe that their games could have been so much more creative had things turned out otherwise.
