Thats the advice I’d give to Asperger people: ask a follow up question (or several) that clarifies the situation before making any direct response.
There’s several subtler reasons — but the simplest is probably the most appealing: it takes advantage of your ability to explicitly define a situation, and the clarity explicit kinds of thinking bring, but in a way that lets the other person feel in control of that process.
