My grandfather flew a B-29 in the March 10 raid. His war journal noted that even with his mask on (oxygen/air-filtration), he could still smell the burning flesh from the destruction that had been unleashed from bombers sequenced ahead of his group.
Operation Meetinghouse[1] is/was the single most destructive bombing raid in human history. I really hope that record is never broken.
