Before 2018 they were, and now they are listed as Title I information services. There is a bit of a court fight over the ability of state regulators to impose rules. I would imagine that they could be moved back if they cause trouble for politicians.
Private companies are regulated all the time. Look up the rules for any utility or communications company. They banned politicians, so that's going to get laws passed.
Welcome to the natural consequence of social networks becoming important to just do daily business. The phone companies, and other utilities, operate under strict rules. I do wonder how many and type of companies will become internet utilities?
That's ok, some of the universities reject applications from PO Boxes or application fees paid with money orders. The filters work from a certain point of view, but I cannot help but wonder how much talent sits on the sidelines because nobody has time or the inclination to look.
For a certain crowd, I agree. The Saturday Evening Post covers spawned a homage set of covers with DC superheroes and villains that is very true to the original's spirit. I will say that in my youth the Byte covers were "better" because I didn't grow in a place that the SEP covers would invoke feelings of nostalgia or familiarity.
I loved the old Byte issues with the fun covers (I still want to buy prints of a couple like the AI and Smalltalk covers). This particular one was a bit funny because my mom thought it was more of that D&D crap[1]. Thinking about it, reading the DMG and articles about Lisp, might make me think she had a point.
1) I should point out that my parents never bought into that whole D&D is evil craze. Star Frontiers was "cute" though.
True, but to be honest, CyberPunk itself was a problematic RPG for a number of reasons. It was deadly beyond most RPGs (well, except for Call of Cthulhu), and one of the archetypes was called a Solo which didn't lend itself to group play. Maybe it is actually a game better suited to a video game.
On a side note, if you can get the CyberPunk 2020, it will give you a chuckle on the tech comparison with the real world. I think it fits into the Cassette Punk genre.
Wait until you have to do tech support for someone who has a USB-C charging cable that doesn't work connecting their hard drive. Singular cable wasn't in the specs.
Ask any farmer when folks move into the area expecting some Disney version of farm country and get the reality of it. Its amazing how many complaints can be generated.
You could consider working for a 501(c)(3) charity, where employees are forbidden by law to make most types of political statements (including in private) using company equipment or channels
