He had so much working capital to play with, and he could have gotten huge amounts of more money to invest based on his crypto genius reputation, he could have probably gotten 100 million to make more of those random investments and hoped one would hit. Meanwhile, he could have paid himself a few million dollar salary. I read somehow a few of his random investments did succeed in having much larger value, maybe it was anthropic. Instead he'll be a prisoner for a long time.
His parents are charged too, will they end up in prison?
That's a complicated story. No one really wants surveillance capitalism. I don't think google copies what I'm doing on my chromebook, but almost every website has google tracking. Chrome has google tracking. You can use non-chrome browsers on chrome os, they are all there via the linux subsystem. You can also run the android ones.
They are in use by the millions in schools. I have one and I really like, can run android apps, chrome web browser, and in the crostini linux system I can run any apps, dev tools, web browsers, emacs, and it is native. I like it better than raw linux because of the built in android support.
I gave chromeos laptops to my family because they aren't trustworthy. Now they have reliable laptops and don't get virus infections or os problems.
You added a note to try to cover yourself but no, slavery is not comparable, not the same as migratory workers. Migratory workers have it very hard & it's to the shame of America how we treat those vulnerable people at our borders. For migratory workers, generally no one kidnaps their children, rapes them as part of their job, forces them to carry their children to term, murders them, sold them off. It's basically one step away from the classic "black people had it better as slaves" comment.
The states switched to the constitution because the confederation was too weak and didn't handle or clarify many important issues. Most of the founders were still around.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confederation_period. "...could not accomplish anything independent of the states. It had no chief executive, and no court system. Congress lacked the power to levy taxes, regulate foreign or interstate commerce, or effectively negotiate with foreign powers. The weakness of Congress proved self-reinforcing, as the leading political figures of the day served in state governments or foreign posts. The failure of the national government to handle the challenges facing the United States led to calls for reform and frequent talk of secession".
Can you explain a little more what you did? Just a little bit, like what brand, did you replace an existing home system. Who did the electrical, did you need duct work? I already have a forced gas system, you can just connect it up? If I only had say 4-5 rooms on one story it would be a lot easier.
That is high pay - you interrupted my expected post of saying other companies pay well. Most big companies (faangs but not just them) I've worked in have paid interns pro-rated wages slightly below a minimum starting pay, so maybe the equivalent of 75k. But 96/hr is 200k annually. I agree that's very high pay for an intern. Do they pay beginning devs that much? And the next step is how much for a regular experienced dev.
Sorry but it's likely something is messed up with your computer or your internet connection. It works for billions of people, something is off. Google meets is not some inherently not-working piece of software.
I took a glance at their website. Does it do all the things the original article mentioned? Like setup catchall email, route email to specific addresses (like I have 3 people in my family, Jane, Akbar, Jeff, [email protected] goes to him, but [email protected] goes to all of us, yet [email protected] goes to just the 2 parents). I want that, plus it's part of the current hodge podge of email verification standards so it won't be blocked as spam when I send from there.
That's the most valuable feature of goggle mail and domain hosting to me.
