It's very likely that since IQ comes from good Gene's, that a least some of the effect is the other way around ; you make more because you are more intelligent, and you're more intelligent in part due to better genetic qualities. a huge part of having average IQ is just being healthy enough to get there.
sure. you might be something else and have a lot of linux experience - I think most people who have this are either devs or some related profession, perhaps sysadmin or adjacent roles. Still, you're kidding yourself if you think the average EE or ME, hell pick any STEM field, knows what the hell is going on with linux (not that none do)
great article and I think shows the way forward. HN has a very technical userbase and overestimates linux as an desktop operating system. Desktop ubuntu installs are down year over year. If you're not a software engineer, getting linux working well (even ubuntu) and keeping it that way is pretty much impossible. Comparatively, W10 will boot on any hardware and take care of itself. even a mechanical or EE engineer without a lot of linux administration skill will struggle; Literally just talked to a friend going thru this yesterday.
Win10 running WSL2 with docker integrated is a better dev experience than running native linux - you can flip up new machines at will, from any distro and they're easy to manage and play nice with VSCode.
I used to dual boot windows and ubuntu and have moved over to just running WSl2, as it minimizes the time I spend administering linux , patching and doing upgrades.
actually, for many metro areas the delinquency rate is reaching 25%+ for FHA loans right now. they're surviving due to the feds preventing foreclosure.
things are a little better in the other classes of loans but not much! if the economy stays weak and jobs dont come back, some metros may well see a housing price decline. Atlanta, Houston and san anton.
uh... didnt early proponents of many worlds interpretation actually say that it did? Say Hugh Evrett? If it is reinterpreted to say otherwise, is it really the same QM model anymore?
Again, strawmen and worse. Theism hardly excludes science or technology. 3 children down you attempt to change the subject again. You have already admitted that you could only argue against deism. I don't expect everyone to come to the light (Strong links between autism & atheism); I do expect a higher level of commentary on HN ...
supernatural means above the natural order; your conception of a deity is out of step with traditional theism and represents straw man building at best
you might do well to learn what attributes classical theism claims of a deity before slandering them; any deity bound by the natural laws of the world is hardly in keeping with the claims of theistic traditions of all stripes , excluding some late 20th century evangelical protestants.
and the problem of evil is only significant to lay people; in the study of the philosophy of religion it has been considered a rather weak objection for some time now.
The purpose of marriage is not and has ever been to be happy all the time. If you view love and marriage as about a transaction where the output must always be happiness, then you're setting an impossible standard. The author presupposed that marriage is about feeling really good all the time, well - most of us are going to hit hard times at some point. If you're so selfish as to believe your partner must always increase your own happiness - you're going to have a really bad time dealing with the realities in life. You might even be such a narcissist that you map your own failings onto the other person and decide they are 'wrong' when you're really a stubborn, selfish, unlovable hedonist.
In this territory, a lot of arguments of the form "This does seem to be the obvious conclusion based on our human thought ,but that is a mere delusion/illusion" - the implication is that someone has an ultra-insightful way to see through the illusion. They don't ; they just seek a little bit of self-edification and ego-stroking by suggesting as much. Arguments of that style are incredibly weak "It only VERY POWERFULLY SEEMS SO" is actually an admission that an unbiased person would reach the conclusion being rejected. The scientific community clung to the steady-state model of cosmology for nearly a century before embracing Big-Bang theory - this was due to philosophical attachments rather than any sort of evidence - these sorts of motivations are still at play today. They mocked and derided those who advanced alternatives until the evidence became so overwhelming that it could no longer be denied.
I really get sad seeing wishfull thinking like this. In mice, it has been demonstrated that parkinsons is linked to damaged neurons - the cells are damaged for the lifetime of the animal and the symptoms appear only later in life. I have parkisons on both sides of my family tree, I've watched people die from it , I'm watching close loved ones wither away even now. I despise these feel good articles that offer false hope to the aflicted...
I think a lot of people at HN just hate IBM for no real reason. An economy doesn't have to be composed entirely of scrappy startups, bleeding-edge tech (and IBM does do a lot of great systems research). Super odd to me that in such a 'rational' community there's a ton of brand affiliation - something like nationalism reduced to the tech industry.
Ultimately, you actually often need something like an IBM to be around to acquire your small company so you can run away with the money.
havent there already been countryhams raised on acorns in the usa? why so much clamor about the spanish ones? if I recall, people have been doing this on the east coast since the colonial era
Sometimes this stuff really bums me out..time to get on leetcode I guess!
