I'm not familiar with the situation but reading the article, this sounds very similar to Netanyahu in Isreal, using the excuse of the opposition to stay in power.
Notion is popular because it is infinitely customizable. Want to draw in your Notion database? Done. Want to do Kanban? Easy. Gantt Charts? Child's play. Whatever you want Notion to do it likely can be and it is available on any device you want and you can share it with your team so working with other people is not a pain in the ass like it is with most plain text note taking.
I don't attribute it all to misinformation. I attribute it all to greed but misinformation is a great tool for the ruling class to satisfy their greed.
A lot of the things you mention are happening because of rampant misinformation. Something these tools will help create more of as an unstoppable rate.

You learn nothing regardless. There is never any information about why you get rejected or why you were passed over. The only difference between getting rejected and not getting rejected is that you at least have closure on that application.
Never did I say companies should talk to everyone that applies but I do think everyone should at least get a response. Half of my applications are dead air.
Bit of a rant but I also have been job hunting after a layoff and their experience sounds like a dream. I have only gotten email rejections thus far and only 1 phone screen. It feels like most of my rejections are just automatic emails. Some of them come same day. The most demoralizing thing happens when you get rejected for a job and then see a new listing for that same job go up just moments later. You were rejected not because they picked someone else but because they decided even talking to you wasn't worth their time and they would rather go back to the pool.
What do you mean by modernize? Is being funded by ads modernizing in your eyes because that is how Morning Brew makes their money. If that's how you look at it then you'll be happy to know that many publications are very modern and write sponsored content filled with modern ads.
