Yeah people will need to get aware of that. I'm European and drive a Renault Zoe. It plays some sort of "whoooooo" noise from under the bonnet/hood when you drive slower than 30 km (19 mi).
On one hand, I think it's dumb because why am I explicitly making noise? So I turned it off. But then I scared the living hell out of two shopping ladies when I unintentionally crept up behind them, and now I always leave it on.
This happened to me once. I was driving to a client while it was snowing. Google Maps told me that there was a faster, less busy way, and avoid the highway.
Yeah it was less busy -- because the locals knew damn well to avoid the crazy slick small roads. At some point, I lost control of the car and skidded off the road. Thankfully I didn't end in the ditch.
You make it sound like that's a problem. I think it's pretty great that he's pocketing the profits, to be honest. I hope he can continue to develop the app.
I don't like the privacy policy of the Xiaomi Mi Bands. But what I found out, is that there's an excellent firewall on Android called NetGuard, and it can block network traffic on a per-app basis. So I just block the Mi Fit app, and it doesn't seem to influence anything.
