Something I've never understood about DRM is, if the content is ultimately played on my device, what stops me from reverse engineering their code to make an alternative client or downloader? Is it just making it harder to do so? Or is there a theoretical limit to reverse engineering that I'm not getting? Do they have hardware decryption keys in every monitor, inside the LCD controller chip?

For what its worth, all of my local banking and e-government apps work flawlessly on GrapheneOS. The only unsupported feature or app I've found so far is Google Pay. (I'm from Italy)

> Just intuitively, in such a high dimensional space, two random vectors are basically orthogonal.

Which, incidentally, is the main reason why deep learning and LLM are effective in the first place.

A vector of a few thousands dimensions would be woefully inadequate to represent all of human knowledge, if not for the fact that it works as the projection of a much higher, potentially infinite-dimensional vector representing all possible knowledge. The smaller-sized one works in practice as a projection, precisely because any two such vectors are almost always orthogonal.

Came here to say the same thing. Uiua is my favorite language by far. BQN is also a cool "Nu-APL" but Uiua is just a full generation ahead.

I've been using UDF formatted flash drives for a long time (10 years?) and they've been working on Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X all this time.

Ohhhh.... I never connected these two aspects, but now everything makes a lot of sense!

I wonder if it was all fortuitous chance, or long-term planning of the most cunning type, by EU leaders.

Also, now I wonder how Brexit fits into this chess game.

That's a complaint about the JS language itself, that variables are global unless otherwise specified.

You are underestimating the FUN of playing anti-anti-^N-hacks. I have had the privilege to be paid to so anti-anti-^N-hacking on a firewall thingy in the past and it was a challenge and a joy!

That's because the Mac App Store was spawned from iTunes, which has to be the shittiest piece of garbage to ever stain the hard disks of Macs.

This is ridiculous.

Here in Europe we have been taking mortgages to buy property long before the USA was born, in fact since the Renaissance.

It certainly is a long-term contract, but nobody really considers it a "yolk." After a number of years your debt is paid and you can keep living in your place without paying anything else.

The alternative is to keep paying rent forever, well into retirement. Which one do you think is smarter?

It's very simple actually.

Consider, for brevity, a mortgage where the monthly or yearly payment, including taxes, is equal to the rent you would be paying for the same place.

Then live in the place and go about your life for several years, until the mortgage is paid for.

Option 1, you took the mortgage. Now you own a house and you are not due any more payments. You can keep living there and use the excess income for other purposes, or you can sell the house and upgrade, or whatever.

Option 2, you kept renting. You are still under a landlord, you are still due monthly payments, and you still don't own anything more that what you started with, after all those years.

In this very real sense, rent is wasted money.

I think even in the US nobody really buys a house (with land) in the city, but in the suburbs. Big difference and much more similar to the 1 hour drive discussed above.
