I think you might right about NVDA overplaying it’s hand here. One reason why nvidia has managed a monopoly is that the market they were in has never appealed to the really big players. With the current pricing that has changed. PyTorch already supports AMD and Arc GPU… not sure how seamlessly though.
I think SW is hardly ever a strong moat. Given the right incentive it’s a moat that can be bridged. In this case avoiding nvda tax is a huge incentive.
