First flights are basically never more than a basic functionality check of take-off and landing configurations. (Note that there were no pictures of it with the gear retracted, because that's also typically something you don't try on a first flight.)

That's how badly they need people! ;-)

Given that you could probably build a Merlin out of solid gold and it would come in cheaper than an RS-25, that's not exactly saying much...

Spending little money frees up your life from having to earn a lot of it. That trade-off starts looking pretty attractive after you've been chained to a desk for a decade.

Having a high income doesn't make you rich if you just spend it all... By definition, being rich requires spending much less than you make, unless you inherited it. Whether that counts as "penny pinching" is a different matter, but the ability to live within your means is certainly accessible to most people if they're willing to delay gratification.

From the context in which he's saying it, I don't think he means it in the sense you're thinking. I thought his reference to physics was an analogy, not an exact statement. I took it to mean more "don't assume that what you hear is true, if what you conclude based on the things you know is different, you should go with that."
