Did the CEO take 'full responsibility' in this layoff too...

That depends on your CI service and pipeline...

That doesn't make a difference. With most of the stuff, images will only be pulled when they are not locally present or stale. Ie pull if not present in K8. So doesnt make any difference.

Ok. Docker is also a convenient container registry. And its independent of ALL of those infrastructures so if i cancel any of them or move elsewhere, Im still good. So why should I not pay for Docker?

> Paying for Docker Hub seems like something that people do because they have to short-term

Huh? I normally pay for Docker for hosting container images for K8 to pull from there. Why wouldn't I pay.

Its much better than the ad driven model of the Internet where advertisers and investors called the shots instead of the users.

Maybe subscription model would have been de facto model of the Internet from the start if the unlimited amounts of VC money that was made possible through low interest rates and the dominant foreign ex currency position of the dollar did not enter the landscape and turned everything into a growth race without heeding any healthy financials.

So we ended up with gigantic social media companies that do not have actual revenue that could justify their stock price like Twitter, FB etc, companies that basically rode on attempting to corner a market with the assumption that it would end up being profitable at some point like WeWork, Uber etc.

Companies that had healthy financials and unit economics were belittled and ignored, they were not ambitious enough and they were not growing fast enough.

Now that the global economics is changing with competing currencies eating into dollar's foreign currency dominance and cash-awash economy through low interest rates not being possible, the startup game will likely change.

The subscription model is one of the models that could make things work. But everything being a subscription does not feel like its sustainable consumer-side - $3-$5 apiece, dozens of subscriptions for different things, amounting to a hundred dollars or more - that doesnt look like manageable or affordable. So eventually bundled services may rise - subscribe for $x, and get all of these services across the Internet.

Not the open Internet we want yet, but its better than the corporate dominated Internet - at least this format gives an opportunity to small players too.

> Why does this happen?

We humans are creative creatures. When we are doing the same thing for a long time, we tend to get bored and make change happen. We 'improve' things, we move things about. We 'make things better'. So we are not bored anymore.

This should address the worries about how remote work will offshore all job.

Because, think about it a minute:

Why should the top-talent overseas slaver away for your startup for low compensation?

Taking India as an example: There are top companies in India which would give top talent a competitive salary for India, along with corresponding status and responsibility.

So, why should top talent there take your similarly paid remote job which lacks the social standing and credibility that comes by working for a top-tier Indian company? Even if you pay higher than the local top-tier company, the difference in pay should be high enough to offset all other things that the candidate is losing by not taking a job in a respectable local company. This kind of social status is quite important because of social pressure from parents, family peers in many cultures. Not unlike how top-tier candidates still prefer to work for reputable companies in San Francisco instead of going for somewhat higher pay in no-name startups.

To recruit and keep top tier talent overseas, you will have to treat them just like how you were treating your local candidates. If you try to weasel your way out of it through scammy business practices - underpay, overwork, sweatshops etc - you will reap what you sow - scammy candidates.
