I love mechanical clocks. I can't get enough of 18th and 19th century tall case (aka grandfather) clocks. There's just something so satisfying about them standing there ticking away, and a nicely set up tall case can keep time to about 1 minute a month. That's actually better than some of my quartz clocks. I've got six of tall cases and I'm always searching craigslist et al for more.

I've always liked public clocks as mentioned in the linked article as well. Big mechanical tower clocks and church clocks are fascinating. Too bad the age of them being just given away as they're decommissioned ended about twenty years ago. Now they're starting to go for some big money, when you can find them.

Anytime I hear sundials, I now think of my trip to Jantar Munter in Jaipur, India. Home to world's largest sundial, accurate to two seconds.
