It's like working for your mom.
That's starting to be how I feel about the internet at large.
Ford was paying more money to employees who were more conformist to his standard of ideal living.
To the hyper individualistic culture like USA today this can only seem bad but this is Japan with factory towns [1] and generally more collectivist culture.
This also need not be bad. Clean and simple lifestyles could make many more people healthier and happier compared to constant analysis-paralysis state of choice. One could even say that this company is morally better than other companies due to promoting a lifestyle which makes people happier in the long term.

It's none of their damned business what legal activities their employees engage in at home.
You may laugh at it, but the internet really is a series of tubes
Good luck with that! Seriously it's none of their business.
smoke breaks are like 75% of a salarimans working day, what are they supposed to do with that time now
Among other things, they are doing this to prevent second-hand smoking. I guess those carcinogens can travel through cyberspace.
Sometimes there’s more than one person in a home.
"Sometimes there are pedestrians in the road", yet people still drive.
Or drop in blood oxygen content..?
I won't hire smokers, because they aren't smart enough to work for me.
It's just one of many of my own custom list of red flags that I use for deciding who I want to associate with/hire/interact with.

I smoke and it's likely I'm smarter than you
(somewhat in jest)
But seriously, your attitude is myopic and rotten.

I don't think accepting a personal choice that has an eyes-open false negative rate qualifies as "myopic".
I simply don't suffer fools, and taking your psychoactives (which are fine) with unnecessary combustion byproducts (which aren't fine, for you or anyone in earshot) is extremely foolish.

Don't tell anybody about this in your life- this is seriously embarrassing.
I hope your potential employees are also smart enough to avoid working for people who ask inappropriate personal questions.
Nicotine affects cognition and behavior (1). In smokers and nonsmokers, it produces small improvements in finger-tapping rate, motor response on tests of focused and sustained attention, and recognition memory (2). In smokers, tobacco deprivation can impair cognitive performance, and subsequent nicotine administration or smoking can reverse these deficits (3–5).

I have never and will never smoke, but this is baby-brained
