Double check company policies and make sure you don't violate them. You probably don't want to end up like this person (https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=48649011)
Scratch your own itch, don't expect much from others, most open source software gets few eyes and usage.
Good README, docs, and simple setup go a long way to getting people to try it.
