'power to trick' - that hit the nail on the head! The oligarchs, higher level bureaucrats, politicians, extreme wealthy etc. that is the superpower, at their core, they are magicians but not in a good, fun way, more like con-man who have mastered the power to _trick_ and deceive. I came to the conclusion sometime ago, that all these people of power and position are really just charlatans, albeit extremely good ones, they are nothing to aspire to and respect, they are no better then a grifter using 'slight of hand' and deception to remove as much wealth and power from others to themselves and when all else fails, they will resort to force/war if need be. In a nutshell, nothing but liars, cheats, cowards and dishonorable megalomaniacs that put on a (good) show for us peasants to better rob us blind.

Plant some trees, preferably food bearing ones (if it makes sense in the location), nurture them. Bask in their growth. Simple, effective, takes little time and next to no money relatively. It is something just about anyone can do if motivated and will most likely still be around long after you have gone. Forget the enormity of the issues and just do something small, in your control that can have a +'ve effect!

Nothing to see here, it's working as intended.

No acceptable punishment, maybe not, however, fear can go a long way! Actual fear of _really_ losing all their family wealth, basically everything but the shirt on their back with a lifetime of hard labor to follow is probably a scarier proposition to these kind of scum then death is. On that note, hanging some of them from the rafters may also help deter this kind of parasitic behavior going forward.

Are you able to turn it on for the 'Windows Insider Program', do an update to latest dev build, then opt out of 'Window Inside Program' and in turn disable 'Optional Diagnostic data' ? Genuinely asking, as I would like to test it but would like to keep diagnostics phoning back to M$ home to a min. if possible.

'An electric induction cooker is superior to any kind of fire, in all aspects and ways, by large margins in every direction.' - except in running costs, I have no idea but assume they draw around 2000 watts for each plate.

Alternatively, I can collect enough firewood in a few days of my spare time, I would have spent in the woods anyway, that will heat my modestly sized house cozily and cook all my meals for at least 6 months of the years in temperatures that can drop to as low as -40 Celsius for days at a time. All it cost me was a bit of sweat and hard yakka in the autumn.

Those billionaire nerds may have been brilliant builders and may even started out with 'good' motivations but with their new found wealth and power, they are no longer the same people once they are inaugurated into the B. club. - 'Power tends to corrupt; absolute power corrupts absolutely'.

In general I agree with you. As you point out, the company is under no obligation to do what is 'fair' for my work and it is my negotiating skills/power that will dictate how much I get paid. Fine, I accept this. However, on the flip side, a company should not expect my undying loyalty, working for free after hours, or take one for the team to get that release out etc. And no I will not be joining them on those bonding, team-building zoom meetings and/or retreats (will they still be a thing in a post-covid world?). Sorry its just business, maybe if you paid me equally for my work I would be more open to the above.

Extinction of the human race, maybe not BUT it would be the end of life on planet Earth as we know it. It would be a shame if extinction is not the outcome, any species _stupid_ enough to attempt to dominate its political and national 'ego' in such a manner deserves elimination from the gene pool of possible species choices.

You are correct.

There is no cell reception, we have satellite, the ISP here in Canada is called Xplornet, which I believe uses Hughesnet. Download speed is pretty good, streaming services typically work fine with SD, voice comms. can be a bit of pain with the 700ms latency. Since covid-19 with many more people working from home etc. I have noticed a significant drop in bandwidth and how spikey latency can get at times

For us, Williams Lake is the closest town with supplies. We travel in a generally northerly direction via various 'tracks' to we turn onto Chilko Lake Road, which ends up on Tatlayoko Lake road, which will in turn lead to Hwy 20. From there, it is all paved to Williams Lake.

Distance wise is not obscene but the 'tracks' i refer to can be a pain to maintain due to wash out and tree blow down etc. If that is the case it can significantly add to travel times. Winter can be good and bad depending on amount of snow or icy conditions etc. Typically, up until about January, winter driving is actually easier IMHO, as all the potholes/ditches are filled out. We use heavy duty chains on the tires if it gets too slippery and/or too much snow, this can make for a really long drive due to having to travel much slower with chains on.

Close! We a fair bit further North. I would consider Gold Bridge the southern most parts of the Chilcotin, whereas we live more in the middle of Chilcotin. Without giving it away, if you look up Chilko Lake it is a reasonably short drive away.

Although the story and your account are United States centric, I live pretty remote British Columbia, Canada and the same mentality, personalty types exists here as well. As the crow flies, I am less then 300KM to downtown Vancouver yet a trip to the closest town center for supplies is a 10 hour round trip in the truck and that is on a good day. I do not leave the house without chainsaw, firearm and various other sundry gear and items as i may have to sleep in the wilderness overnight or repair my truck on the side of a dirt road.

I do all our property maintenance and repairs etc., even if I could convince a 'professional' to come out this way, the expense would be anywhere from 3X to 10X for the same job in town.

Self reliance and self-sufficiency are not new, trendy traits, it is a necessity for survival that has always been that way and it will probably never change for the people living in this part of the world.

The answer is obvious, at least with our current 'clean energy' systems and their related costs. We would _all_ just need to use MUCH less energy. This of course would force major life style changes and industry output to be drastically reduced, not something most people and business are ready to accept at this time but the point is, there is a way, right now, with what we have but the terms are unacceptable to most.
